Maximizing your professional value, from junior to leaderVlad Fedosov
As I was progressing in my career, from being a beginner in web development to leadership positions in a global company, it was always hard to understand what kind of skills I needed to develop in order to move forward. So let's try to answer those questions and create a simple career development model that you can use as a guiding point as you move forward.
Lessons learnt from test driven developmentAnand Powar
My presentation from Scaling Agile @ Chandigarh, October 2015.
Agenda:
1. Lessons Learnt while working with teams using TDD
2. Brick game emphasising importance of unit testing
Object-oriented design for infrastructure-as-a-code - Anna BankirerDevOpsDays Tel Aviv
Infrastructure code can really benefit from some proven object oriented design principles like SOLID and others. Instead of just thinking about automation, we need to design and build infrastructure software systems that are easy to understand, test and maintain
Everyone talks about the fact that infrastructure should be programmatic and treated as a code, but often what this means is just writing a bunch of scripts to automate our deployments.
By doing so, aspects like proper documentation, separation to modules , abstraction, even version control that are standard for "regular" software projects are omitted from infrastructure systems.
This leads to cumbersome, monolith system - the very thing we are trying to resolve in the software design.
I would like to discuss the basic software design principles like SOLID and DRY and how to apply them when automating our deployments, writing docker containers or writing our application stack.
Teams today are facing similar problems: How do we encourage the reuse of existing components? How do we raise awareness for them? How do we keep them stable while keeping maintenance efforts low? How do we ensure a coherent branding without exploiting our designers?
If you are worried by these questions fear no longer. I aim to show you a way out of this self-made jungle into a brighter world of coded style guides. We will explore together how we can tear down walls between design and development and how everyone can benefit from introducing living component directories into their project.
