This document provides instructions for a lesson on the history and meaning of the FFA Creed for 9th grade agriculture students. Students will work in groups to research milestones in the FFA's history using websites. They will create a timeline and presentation highlighting a key event. Students will also write individual letters explaining the importance of the creed. The goal is for students to better understand the creed and how the organization has changed lives.

Since 1928, millions of agriculture students - no one knows exactly how many - have donned the official FFA jacket and championed the FFA creed. FFA has opened its doors and its arms to minorities and women, ensuring that all students could reap the benefits of agricultural education. Today, the National FFA Organization remains committed to the individual student, providing a path to achievement in premier leadership , personal growth and career success through agricultural education. Now, the organization is expanding the nation's view of "traditional" agriculture and finding new ways to infuse agriculture into the classroom. 80 years ago they could not have foreseen how the organization would grow and thrive. Today with over ½ a million FFA members around the country, the words of E.M Tiffany's FFA creed still holds the true meaning of the organization. All Freshman in Ag Classes have to learn the FFA Creed. The FFA Creed is a basic statement of beliefs and a common bond between all members. Over the past 80 years members have taken the meaning of the creed and carried it with them throughout their lives … ..will you dare to do the same??? The Ticket to your Future

You will: Discover what events led up to the establishment of the FFA organization Study the original FFA creed Examine photographs of the FFA Archives Experience what it means to live and work on a good farm Discover our national traditions Relieve the milestones that have occurred through the past 80 years You will do all of your research using the INTERNET!!!! While on your journey of discovering the future of agriculture be sure to keep a record of everything that has occurred. Once you have returned from revisiting the milestones within the organization you will return and share with the rest of the class, the milestone that you feel has made the biggest impact/difference on the organization as well as how that has changed/ influenced the meaning of the FFA Creed. Once you have finished that you will again share what you have learned by writing a letter to future FFA members explaining to them the importance of the FFA creed and the difference the FFA has made in changing the lives of students. Before you embark on the next step you need to take in allowing the FFA creed to shape your future the teacher will divide you up into groups of 2. __________________________________________________________________________ You will now explore the past and you prepare for you future. Visiting places like FFA.org and Coloradoffa.org my be helpful places in starting you search. Once you have gathered and understood the milestones you will collaborate the information that you have found and create a creative timeline using Excel. Taking that timeline, as a group discuss and agree on what you feel is the most influential and life changing milestone that occurred within the organization. Then using PowerPoint create a presentation that will show the relation between that event and how it would change the meaning of the creed it had not occurred. Then using what you have learned write a personally letter(individually) to a future FFA member. Talk with them about the meaning of the FFA creed and the changes within the organization that have allowed for it to become what it is today
