Discussion and Q&A
➢Future Events
3. Common questions
• What was your starting place for alignment?
• What tradeoffs did you make if any between
complexity of alignment and simplicity of use?
• What are some lessons learned from your
process?
• Are there gaps or strengths that you can
identify?
• What are you finding about use of the NGSS
aligned resources?
4. Upcoming Events:

14. Tagging InTeGrate
materials with NGSS…
stuff
Anne Egger
Central Washington University
InTeGrate team leader for materials development in
teacher preparation
15. The goals:
•All InTeGrate activities and modules are
searchable by NGSS performance
expectations, DCIs, SEPs, and CCs at the
appropriate granularity (in addition to being
searchable by other things).
•Clarity for the user how and why the
connections to the NGSS are made.
16. The reality as of now:
•It’s a work in progress – mechanism for
tagging is in place, but visuals and search
tools for users are not.
•Materials are designed for undergraduate
courses, not K-12.
•“Appropriate granularity” is difficult.
17. I will show you:
•Visual that does exist
•Mechanism for tagging and what we are
tagging with
•How it could work for searching
19. Recap: Finding Resources in NASA
Wavelength to Support NGSS
List-Building – Register to create lists of resources, use text fields
to annotate (e.g., how to use in your classroom, adaptations)
coming: enhanced functionality - add NGSS/browse lists by NGSS
Strandmaps – Climate and Weather -- Click on Benchmark to see
Related NGSS
Key Word Searches - e.g., water cycle, Earth system, weather
Filters
• Resource Type – Data; Project
• Topics Climate, Engineering, Mathematics: Data collection,
analysis and probability; Nature of Science: The Scientific
Process; Nature of Technology: Design Process
• Instructional Strategies: Inquiry, Guided Inquiry, Project Based
Learning, Problem Based Learning

Hello. My name is Kristin Wegner and I am delighted to present at this webinar today. I am a Project Manager for the GLOBE Implementation Office and today I am going to share some of the work we did as a community to align our resources, as well as how we incorporated the alignment products into our website navigation search tool.
In 2013, GLOBE Partners Marcy Seavey and David Bydlowski received an NSF grant to develop an NGSS alignment process, facilitate an alignment workshop, and conduct a series of webinars about the connection between GLOBE and NGSS.
That fall, 26 GLOBE Partners, trainers, and teachers convened for a workshop in northern Iowa. We spent two and a half days going through each GLOBE protocol, learning activity, and resource to explore the connections between classroom instruction, protocols, and assessment and NGSS. We developed three rubrics based on Achieve OER; that looked helped us determine the connections between Practice DCI, Crosscutting concepts, and gaps.
Here is an example of how each resource was given a score per classroom instruction and assessment, as well as the resources match list, and the final product we created “A Guide to Connections between The GLOBE Program and the Next Generation Science Standards.” We held an internal and external review process of the product.
We conducted webinars for our workshop participants prior to the workshop so that they understood NGSS and the alignment tools that we created, as well as post-workshop webinars for GLOBE Partners and teachers, as well as the general public, to understand how to incorporate GLOBE, NGSS, and the connection tool.
I am now going to show you how you can search the Teacher’s Guide through our interactive search tool to find our resources per NGSS tag. (Show DCI and SPE)
