Funding Available: $2,000,000 ($200,000 award
ceiling)
Deadline: June 20, 2017
Application of Funding: The purpose of this FOA is
to solicit applications proposing to test approaches for
expanding medication assisted treatment (MAT) for
opioid use disorders (OUD) in the general health care
sector or linking individuals with OUDS who receive
naloxone for the reversal of overdose to MAT in the
context of stats plans for use of the fund.
Rural Access to Emergency Devices
Opioid Overdose Reversal Grant
Agency: Health Resources and Services
Administration
Funding Available: $10,000,000 (no limit;; 30 awards)
Deadline: N/A
Application of Funding: The purpose of this program
is to reduce the incidences of morbidity and mortality
related to opioid overdoses in rural communities
through the purchase and placement of emergency
devices used to rapidly reverse the effects of opioid
overdoses and training of licensed healthcare
professionals and emergency responders on their use.

Clinical Evaluation of Adjuncts to Opioid Therapies
for the Treatment of Chronic Pain (R01)
Deadline: January 7, 2018
Application of Funding: This aims to fund
applications designed to assess the clinical value of
adjuncts prescribed to chronic pain patients together
with opioid analgesics. Adjuncts of interest are either
approved by the FDA or have previously been studied
as an Investigational New Drug. Studies with adjuncts
of interest should be focused on enhancing analgesia,
rather than on reducing an adverse effect. A secondary
purpose is to increase awareness among opioid
prescribers of the potential value of adjunctive
therapies by focused data dissemination.
NIDA Translational Avant-Garde Award for Development
of Medication to Treat Substance Use Disorders
(UG3/UH3)
Funding Available: $2,000,000 ($1,000,000 award ceiling;; 2
awards)
Deadline: May 7, 2020
Application of Funding: This award is to support
outstanding basic and/or clinical researchers with the vision
and expertise to translate research discoveries into
medications for the treatment of Substance Use Disorders
(SUDs) stemming from tobacco, cannabis, cocaine,
methamphetamine, heroin, or prescription opiate use. Eligible
applicants must demonstrate the ability to develop molecules
with the potential to treat SUDs and advance them in the
drug development continuum. The ultimate goal is to bring
molecules closer to FDA approval.

Marijuana, Prescription Opioid, or Prescription Benzodiazepine Drug Use Among
Older Adults (R01;; R03;; R21)
Funding Available: TBD (R01: $500,000 award ceiling, R03: $50,000 award ceiling, R21: $200,000 award ceiling)
Deadline: May 7, 2020
Application of Funding: Despite significant scientific advancements made in substance use disorder research over the last
century, the causes and consequences of drug use in later life remain poorly understood. The intent of this funding opportunity
announcement is to support innovative research that examines aspects of marijuana and prescription opioid and benzodiazepine
use in adults aged 50 and older. This FOA encourages research that examines the determinants of these types of drug use and/or
characterizes the resulting neurobiological alterations, associated behaviors, and public health consequences. This initiative will
focus on two distinct populations of older adults: individuals with earlier onset of drug use who are now entering this stage of adult
development or individuals who initiate drug use after the age of 50. Applications are encouraged to utilize broad methodologies
ranging from basic science, clinical, and epidemiological approaches. The insights gleaned from this initiative are critical to our
understanding of the determinants of drug use in later life, as well as its consequences in the aging brain and on behavior. This
knowledge may have the potential to identify risk factors and to guide clinical practices in older populations.

Comprehensive Addiction and Recover Act of 2016, State Pilot Grant Program for
Treatment of Pregnant and Postpartum Women
Agency: Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration
Funding Available: $3,300,000 ($1,100,00 award ceiling;; 3 awards)
Deadline: July 3, 2017
Application of Funding: SAMHSA, Center for Substance Abuse Treatment is accepting applications for FY17 Comprehensive
Addiction and Recovery Act of 2016, State Pilot Grant Program for Treatment for Pregnant and Postpartum Women. The purpose
is to enhance flexibility in the use of funds designed to: 1) support family-based services for pregnant and postpartum women with
a primary diagnosis of a substance use disorder, including opioid disorders;; 2) help state substance abuse agencies address the
continuum of care, including services provided to women in nonresidential-based settings;; and 3) promote a coordinated, effective
and efficient state system managed by state substance abuse agencies by encouraging new approaches and models of service
delivery. SAMHSA seeks to: 1) reduce the abuse of alcohol and other drugs;; 2) increase engagement in treatment services;; 3)
increase retention in the appropriate level and duration of services;; and 4) increase access to the use of medications approved by
the FDA in combination with counseling for the treatment of drug addiction.

DoD USAMRMC FY17 Broad Agency Announcement for Extramural Medical
Research
Agency: Dept. of the Army - USAMRAA
Deadline: September 30,2017
Application of Funding: The scope of this effort and the priorities attached to specific projects are influenced by changes in
military and civilian medical science and technology, operational requirements, military threat assessments, and national defense
strategies. The extramural research and development programs play a vital role in the fulfillment of the objectives established by
the USAMRMC. This FY17 BAA is intended to solicit extramural research and development ideas and is issued under the
provisions of the Competition in Contracting Act of 1984 (Public Law 98-369), as implemented in Federal Acquisition Regulation
(FAR) 6.102(d)(2) and 35.016 and in DoD Grant and Agreement Regulations (DoDGARS) 22.315. In accordance with FAR
35.016, projects funded under this BAA must be for basic and applied research to support scientific study and experimentation
directed towards advancing the state of the art or increasing knowledge or understanding rather than focusing on development of
a specific system or hardware solution. Research and development funded through this BAA are intended and expected to benefit
and inform both military and civilian medical practice and knowledge.
