Organization
 Founded in 1886
 Henry Bergh – Known as “the Great Meddler”
The Mission
 According to the founder the mission is “to provide effective
means for the prevention of cruelty to animals throughout the
United States.”
 Believes that all animals deserve treatment that is respectful and
kind
 Provide education and work to prevent the illegal act of animal
cruelty
 Pride in three factors that make them who they are:
1. Caring for pets and helping pet owners
2. Providing good and positive results for at risk animals
3. Helping nurse those pets that were victims of cruelty, back
to good health
Programs that help support
the ASPCA mission
 Animal Cruelty Behavior Team
 Animal behaviorists who work with victimized and abused
animals to train them and nurture them back to normal
 Cruelty Intervention Advocacy Program
 Works with animal hoarding, emergency vet care, and
resources for domestic violence survivors
 Field Investigation and Response
 Rescues and helps animal victims of disasters
 Forensic Services
 Investigates evidence to be used in cruelty convictions
 Legal Advocacy
 Works with animal protection laws and provides legal
assistance in cruelty conviction cases
ASPCA Education
 The ASPCA continuously educates the public on how
to properly care for our pets and how to ensure their
safety

 The ASPCA workers have recently rescued severally
puppies that were part of a fighting ring in Freeport,
Florida
 The ASPCA shows continuous efforts to step in and
demand the safety of dogs that are victims of cruelty
