UNC Cause 2014 | 8,000 Sites and Counting - Running a *Huge* WordPress Service Billy Hylton
any of us know that WordPress is is an easy-to-use web publishing system that meets a wide range of our website needs. We also understand that supporting many standalone instances of WordPress can be a nightmare -- so we turn to WordPress Multisite. But what happens when your WordPress network explodes to include thousands of users and sites? At UNC-Chapel Hill our two WordPress multisite networks (self-serve/enterprise) power thousands of sites across a wide range of use cases. During this presentation, we’ll explore topics such as scalability, security, user experience, and administration overhead as they pertain to these very large WordPress networks. We’ll share tips, lessons learned, and ongoing challenges. This talk will cover technical areas (i.e - caching, domain mapping, and custom theme development) as well as topics of interest to communicators and content editors.
It includes all basics you need to know about web designing and if you did like the content being presented in the slides you can join our club to learn more interesting things about web designing.
This purpose assumes that educational websites in general are a good thing. Even so, we have heard arguments that many young people today use the internet so much for leisure and personal interest activities that they would advantaged by learning all of their formal school or college studies from paper textbooks

I.Background The crisis caused by the Covid19 pandemic has serLizbethQuinonez813
I.Background The crisis caused by the Covid19 pandemic has serious implications for the education
sector in all countries of the Americas region, bringing with it some challenges and opportunities for the
reform of education systems with an emergency approach.
The most widely used strategy currently is remote learning using online tools, but also podcasts and
other resources that require less data usage by downloading them on a mobile device to ensure
educational continuity
II.Justification The Virtual Campus is a useful tool for easy access to. The Campus has self-directed and
directed courses; this model adjusts to the complex schedules of volunteers, staff and the general
public. One of the characteristics that makes the Campus a fundamental platform in the framework of
the Covid-19 pandemic, is the interaction in the whole teaching-learning process with individual and
continuous monitoring, encouraging participation and collaborative learning, taking advantage of all the
tools provided by the e-learning platform: forums, chat, email, interactive content, case studies,
discussion forums, self-assessment tests, links to external websites, infographics, videos, bibliography,
news, among others. In the context of the Covid-19 pandemic, the National Societies have had to
rethink the ways to train themselves, manage their networks, disseminate their information, and access
essential educational material for their work.
The Campus comes to contribute and provide new possibilities through information technologies, which
are updated and changing every day. The current platform uses Adobe Flash Player. Flash is a computer
application included in the multimedia player category (it was made up of animation software, plus a
player or virtual machine that hosted the software and the specific information it contained). On
December 31, 2020, Adobe ended technical support for the program, ending 24 years of existence. This
means that as of January 2021 it will no longer receive security updates or technical support. Since this
change, many of the learning platforms and operating programs have had to look for alternatives to this
change. The Campus is no exception, it will have to make the transition to another application and thus
streamline the way material and courses are displayed and reproduced in order to adjust to a more
modern and efficient technology. This change is also important as it will improve the face (visual and
interface aesthetics) of the platform, making it easier for users to understand and use its interactive
elements.
A modern and clean design will be sought that goes hand in hand with the accessibility provided by
mobile devices (cell phones, tablets), as well as computer equipment. An important element in the
direction of improving the platform in terms of accessibility is the fact that older volunteers need not
only to be trained in the use of new technologies, but a ...

Book Formatting: Quality Control Checks for DesignersConfidence Ago
This presentation was made to help designers who work in publishing houses or format books for printing ensure quality.
Quality control is vital to every industry. This is why every department in a company need create a method they use in ensuring quality. This, perhaps, will not only improve the quality of products and bring errors to the barest minimum, but take it to a near perfect finish.
It is beyond a moot point that a good book will somewhat be judged by its cover, but the content of the book remains king. No matter how beautiful the cover, if the quality of writing or presentation is off, that will be a reason for readers not to come back to the book or recommend it.
So, this presentation points designers to some important things that may be missed by an editor that they could eventually discover and call the attention of the editor.

1. We present before you a club which is both absolutely fun and knowledgeable and which can
be used even in the future. We are here to develop ideas which can be taken further and actually be
published. This club focuses on both the learning part and the application and productivity. Web
designing and development is not only about creating websites or making it pretty. A lot goes into it
even without realising it such as the backend, the management, the updates , keeping the page lively,
making sure to get on the top of the Google search and getting hold on advertisers, letting users make
their own changes.
In the future, we can hold seminars, competitions, activities which can be very useful. We are focused
more on the fun part of computer science which doesn’t require the in-depth knowledge about coding.
We have to make it simple and interactive.
Areas under web development –
a. Content –
Content ranges from a simple/plain text to a complex text. Contents must be well
organized, presented and structured using mark-up language like HTML.
Different kinds of contents for a website –
i. Blogging - It includes content marketing strategy and people can write about their
adventure and stories. Notifications can be provided for regular updates.
ii. Case Studies - A topic can be taken and can be elaborated such as research papers,
math, science etc..,
iii. EBooks - A website for creative writers in our college and make them accessible to
everyone.
iv. Journals - Basically a mix of a dairy and instagramand make it more interesting.
v. A guide for the college - The insides and outs of the college campus, activities, clubs
and entertainment can be uploaded by the student.
vi. Calendar - For marking fun events in college like musicals, dance etc..,
2. b. Visuals –
The visuals normally means the screen layout used in a website, which are generally
created using CSS, HTML and Flash. Visuals may include graphics or images for
decorations. Visuals act as an interpreter between the users and the backend
technology like PHP or ASP.
c. Technology –
The technology implementations are as significant as visuals and content, to provide
dynamicity for the website. The technology like JavaScript, VBScript, CSS, HTML,
Java applets, PHP and ASP falls under the technology category. Now-a-days the
technologies are developing very fast and a great example is HTML5.
d. Delivery –
If a website fails to load all of its contents in time, the user will close the tab
immediately or it would be irritating for some users. The speeds of the website and
reliability criterion are important too. The website must load in minimum time.
e. Purpose -
“Purpose is the starting point of the web design process”.This means that without any
purpose why anyone will make websites. Every website has some purpose and thus it
must be designed with a particular purpose. The website may vary according to its
type, but the main purpose should be the usefulness.
Check out the below link for more information -
https://www.w3.org/standards/webdesign/
Topics we can consider –
1. Web for mobile.
2. Types of contents - like educational, about the college, reviews of the college and subject.
3. Helpful website in terms of emergency like covid-19, floods etc..,
4. A website which can build another website.
5. A video editing website - upload a video - edit - download the edited video - someone has to
edit it.
6. A learning group who wants to start coding fromthe scratch about web designing.
7. A notes website - people can upload notes and assignments which can be verified by someone.
8. Website for random movie generator to pass time.
3. 9. Conversion of marks website.
10. Confession website - where we can analyse the state of a person and tell themif they need help.
11. Then we can get into apps.
