It’s panto time again
for Thornley Birds
The popular panto people
known as the Thornley Birds
are once again rehearsing for
theirannualproduction.
This time it’s Dick Whit-
tington and is in Fulwood as
in previous years, but sadly
not in Longridge. This year
thelocalvenueisChippingVil-
lage Hall onSunday February
22 at 2.30pm and for St Mar-
tin’sHallinFulwood,datesare
Friday February 27 at 7.30pm
and Saturday February 28 at
2.30pm. But maintenance of
the strong family tradition
that always marks these col-
ourful productions is still the
same, the founding member
anddoyenneofdames,Marga-
ret Blackburn (87 in May) still
inthedrivingseat.
Margaret,whostartedwith
Thornley WI in the first per-
formances 16 years ago, is in
charge of costumes as well as
taking the part of Dame Mag-

Perkins acknowledged com-
petition was tough this year
with some 90 entries from
acrossthenorthwest.
First prize went to Don-
ald Dakeyne of Silverdale
with Derelict Canal Wharf.
Coun Perkins said: “It felt
like I could climb into it
and smell it and hear the
sounds.”
Sheaddeditwashearten-
ing to see so many different
styles of art and praised the
way the contest brought the
community together.
Describingtheexhibition
as“agreatassetforGarstang”
she said she hoped that in
future years more young
people and schools would
get involved.
