WAYS THAT I ATTRACTED MY
AUDIENCE
Jack Hudson
The Audience Themselves...
• The audience of AMPLIFY Magazine are mainly
all big Indie music fans, aged between 17 and 22.
How Did I attract the Audience?
Method 1- Online Survey
• AMPLIFY Magazine is a magazine aimed toward
the younger generations, the incredibly
technologically orientated individuals, obsessed
with their phones and anything electronic.
• So the first place I decided to try and attract my
audience was online. The survey/questionnaire
was placed onto SurveyMonkey.co.uk, a very
popular and easily accessible website. The survey
I created included questions which should give
me a wider perspective of what the audience
would like to see, therefore, providing me with
ways of how to attract them.
• The questions I used were very simple and
effective, questions such as “What is your
preferred genre of music?” and “How often do
you listen to your preferred genre of music?”, to
get a clearer understanding of what it is the
audience wants in particular, and how fanatical
they are about music
How Did I attract the Audience?
Method 1- Online Survey (continued)
• After completing the survey, I decided
that the survey needed some more
publicity. So I decided to share the
survey onto my Faceb00k, Instagram
and Twitter profiles, in a hope that a
combined friends/followers number of
over 1300 people would hopefully drag
more attention to my magazine. I
obviously wasn’t expecting anywhere
near as 1300 people to fill out my
survey, but with sharing the survey out
to my followers and friends, it should
theoretically increase the number of
completled surveys.
• This also appeals to a larger audience,
which should make more people want
to purchase AMPLIFY Magazine
How Did I attract the Audience?
Method 2- Social Media (Facebook)
• As many people know, social media is now incredibly popular, especially
with teenagers and young adults, i.e. My target audience age.
• So, therefore, there was no better place for me to try and appeal to the
young adults and teenagers than on social media.
• I firstly decided to try and connect with the Indie audience on my
Facebook page.
• Facebook is the world’s most popular form of social media, with over 1
billion users worldwide. If my post was to be shared by someone that
saw it, anyone across the world could see my post and this will definitely
bring in a larger audience.
• I did this because this is my most popular social media. I have over 600
friends on Facebook. This will certainly appeal to some of that 600 as
many of them have a very large interest in Indie music. If they’re seeing
a new Indie magazine is being released, it will without doubt connect
with them
How Did I attract the Audience?
Method 2- Social Media (Twitter)
• In addition to using Facebook to try and connect with a larger
audience, I decided to use some of my other social media accounts
to appeal to more people.
• I searched through my social media accounts, including YouTube,
Snapchat and Instagram. But I decided the next most simple and
effective form of social media to use would be my Twitter account.
• Twitter is another incredibly popular form of social media, with
over 320 million users every month, and over 6000 tweets being
sent every second.
• Twitter is a very simple platform to use, and with the advantage of
hashtags (e.g #AMPLIFYMag) it is simpler to find something
specific than that of Facebook.
• I have over 225 followers on Twitter, and with a lot of them being
my friends, I know that AMPLIFY Magazine will appeal to some of
them indefinitely.
Audience Feedback
• The overall audience feedback from all three of
the websites and social media platforms I used
to appeal and connect with the audience was
very positive. There was some constructive
comments, and also some rather unserious ones,
but the feedback was mainly positive.
• The constructive criticism told me
Changes I Made to AMPLIFY Magazine
post-feedback
• The constructive criticism told me that my main issue with the magazine was
my front cover.
• Most of the comments were about the puff on the page, about the “VIP
Courteeners and Blossoms tickets”. The comments mainly said how the puff
looked “unfinished” and “unprofessional”.
• One comment in particular, from my 18 year old cousin after seeing my
Facebook post, was to make the puff “come together” with the rest of the page,
as to her the puff looked “Out of place” and “As if it was just thrown onto the
page without thought”.
• So the change I decided to make was to make the puff into another coverline,
• I changed the font of the “WIN” text from the red Verdana font into a white
Bebas Neue font with a cyan drop shadow, making it correlate with the rest of
the page.
• I then changed the “VIP Courteeners and Blossoms Tickets” from a white
colour into the cyan colour scheme, and I furthermore increased the size of the
text to make it stand out more.
