ITC focuses on developing watersheds in semi-arid regions of India with erratic rainfall and large crop failures. The development has two objectives: water conservation and soil enrichment to allow farmers to extend cultivation and do multiple crops per year. ITC implements community-based management of water resources through micro plans to conserve topsoil, minimize runoff, restore old water harvesting structures, and construct new ones to create efficient water management regimes that focus on end usage of harvested water and fight drought and unemployment by increasing farm productivity and providing construction jobs.
