The Washington State market was the first in Comcast to reach out through social media, years ago, to customers to let them know about severe storms that affect their service. I'm sharing this after action report prepared by a colleague because I'm passionate that social media is the best way to reach out to customers during significant weather incidents such as windstorms. I've been reaching out to customers like this longer than anyone else at Comcast, because it's the right thing to do. Yes, managing social media for a Comcast market involves dealing with a lot of angry people. And it's no wonder: Internet and video are addictive substances, and people take their Internet and video very seriously. Who can blame them? This particular project involved working 32 days straight - because we have one person in Washington who does social, me. But I didn't mind because the windstorms had done horrific damage and created a story that needed telling. This relentless stream of communication was the right thing to do for our customers.

Government and Social Media: The Legal Issues to ConsiderWalter Neary
This column by attorney Ramsey Ramerman details important concerns for local elected officials and local governments to consider when they use social media like Twitter, Facebook and blogs. The column is particularly useful for Washington State, where Ramerman is an assistant city attorney for the city of Everett. This reprint appears with the kind permission of the Association of Washington Cities. This column first appeared in the September 2009 issue of their magazine, CityWise.
December 2013: This slideshow is something of a historical artifact now. This slideshow came from one of the first talks given to a state association of local elected officials that was encouraging them to use social media. It was quite a show - my talk got 'gatecrashed' by a lawyer, plus some local elected officials with a history of shady dealings, who warned the other electeds that they and their cities could face stiff penalties if they used social media. It's hysterical in 2013, but this was heady stuff in 2009. Here's my original description of the talk, which I'm preserving in compliance with the WA state public records act:
Talk to other locally elected officials in the summer of 2009 about how they can use blogging, Facebook, Twitter and other methods to reach out, and hear from, constituents. Annual conference of the Association of Washington Cities, Spokane.

ABSTRACT: Although a significant amount of literature exists on Morocco's migration policies and their
successes and failures since their implementation in 2014, there is limited research on the integration of subSaharan African children into schools. This paperis part of a Ph.D. research project that aims to fill this gap. It
reports the main findings of a study conducted with migrant children enrolled in two public schools in Rabat,
Morocco, exploring how integration is defined by the children themselves and identifying the obstacles that they
have encountered thus far. The following paper uses an inductive approach and primarily focuses on the
relationships of children with their teachers and peers as a key aspect of integration for students with a migration
background. The study has led to several crucial findings. It emphasizes the significance of speaking Colloquial
Moroccan Arabic (Darija) and being part of a community for effective integration. Moreover, it reveals that the
use of Modern Standard Arabic as the language of instruction in schools is a source of frustration for students,
indicating the need for language policy reform. The study underlines the importanceof considering the
children‟s agency when being integrated into mainstream public schools.

Improving Workplace Safety Performance in Malaysian SMEs: The Role of Safety ...AJHSSR Journal
ABSTRACT: In the Malaysian context, small and medium enterprises (SMEs) experience a significant
burden of workplace accidents. A consensus among scholars attributes a substantial portion of these incidents to
human factors, particularly unsafe behaviors. This study, conducted in Malaysia's northern region, specifically
targeted Safety and Health/Human Resource professionals within the manufacturing sector of SMEs. We
gathered a robust dataset comprising 107 responses through a meticulously designed self-administered
questionnaire. Employing advanced partial least squares-structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) techniques
with SmartPLS 3.2.9, we rigorously analyzed the data to scrutinize the intricate relationship between safety
behavior and safety performance. The research findings unequivocally underscore the palpable and
consequential impact of safety behavior variables, namely safety compliance and safety participation, on
improving safety performance indicators such as accidents, injuries, and property damages. These results
strongly validate research hypotheses. Consequently, this study highlights the pivotal significance of cultivating
safety behavior among employees, particularly in resource-constrained SME settings, as an essential step toward
enhancing workplace safety performance.

On the front lines: Helping Comcast customers understand what happens with severe storms and their service
1. Spokane Outage Overview

November 17, 2015
Spokane experienced a record breaking windstorm that caused significant power outages across the
area beginning on November 17. The team implemented a proactive communications strategy to notify
employees and customers about the impact of the storm on their Comcast services.
During the height of the storm, the external communications team posted updates to the Comcast in
Washington blog three times/day, in addition to responding to more upset customers by direct
messaging them and taking care of them off-line.
Once the storm quieted down, the WA team continued to post regular updates to the blog, some of
which included informative articles to help customers better understand the interconnectivity of
Comcast’s services and power.
The blog posts included informative videos, extensive Q&A and pictures. Note the KREM TV news clip
that highlights Xfinity crews working to restore services.
The team has provided daily updates to local media since the outages occurred.
It’s important to note that these conversations with the community occurred across multiple
platforms. The efforts weren’t in vain, as the majority of customer response and local press was
positive, many grateful for the local team’s efforts in restoring service. A best practice in demonstrating
Comcast XFINITY getting in front and controlling the message – using frontline employees to share
updates (YouTube) and a lot of customer service interaction. A few times @ComcastCares would join
the conversation but by then, local account already managed customer issue.
