WASH United is an organization that uses soccer to promote water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) practices and advocacy. It has three approaches: implementing WASH programs in schools and youth soccer teams using educational games and materials, raising public awareness through soccer-themed campaigns, and advocating for access to water and sanitation as human rights. The organization was founded by a human rights lawyer who saw an opportunity to promote WASH during the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. It has reached thousands of children in Africa with positive messaging and recruited high-profile soccer stars as champions for its cause.
