both of whom Molosi met and watched on
stage while a student there.

The New York Times has reviewed Molosi’s work and called his performances “inflamed
with passion,” particularly his heart-wrenching portrayal of a Ugandan child soldier in his
one-man show, No Idea (2010). In a 2012 interview with the BBC, Molosi described his
work as “critical love letters” to humanity.
5. Awards and Accolades
* Upon his return to New York’s off-Broadway scene in 2010, Molosi staged four solo shows that he
penned. Blue, Black and White about the life of Seretse Khama earned him another Best Actor
Award in 2011.
* ‘Today It’s Me’, about the life of Uganda’s music superstar earned him the Robert Potter
Playwriting Award in 2012
* ‘MOTSWANA: Africa, Dream Again’, earned him a publication deal by Indie Theatre Now and Blue
* Black and White 2 earned him the Dilling Yang Prize for Excellence in Playwriting.
* In 2010, Molosi was one of the 200 young achievers invited by President Ma of the Republic of
China (Taiwan) to commemorate Taiwan’s centenary celebrations. There, Molosi performed before
world leaders including former South African President F.W. de Klerk.
6. WE ARE ALL BLUE
We Are All Blue (Botswana) is a
collection of two plays – Motswana:
Africa, Dream Again and Blue, Black and
White – by the actor and playwright
Donald Molosi, including an
introduction by Quett Masire, former
president of Botswana.
Blue, Black and White (2011), the
longest running one-man show in
Botswana’s history, was the first-ever
Botswana play staged off-Broadway in
New York City, where Molosi won a
best actor award. BBW is about the
country’s first democratically elected
president, Sir Seretse Khama, and his
interracial, transformative marriage.
Winner of several awards, the play has
been performed around the world.
7. WE ARE ALL BUE
Motswana: Africa, Dream Again is the story of Botswana and its
people as they transition from a British colony to an independent
state. The play premiered off-Broadway in 2012 where it won an
award at the United Solo Festival, the world’s largest solo theatre
festival. Written, directed, and performed by Molosi, the play has
been performed across the U.S. and is on tour in Botswana and
South Africa.

8. Dear Upright African
Apart from acting and writing Molosi is a
singer and songwriter and his next
project, which is at this point untitled, will
showcase his songwriting and singing
abilities. He trained in classical singing at
LAMDA. Molosi is privately a language
historian and he speaks Setswana,
Swahili, French and English fluently. He is
conversational in Zulu and Ndebele, and
understands Kalanga.
During his stints in Tamilnadu India as a
summer teacher of theater for children
with disabilities, Molosi also picked up
some Tamil and Hindi. Molosi is a public
speaker and his last engagement as
speaker was to deliver the keynote
address at Bucknell University
(Pennsylvania)’s Black History Month on
the theme of Postcolonial African
Performance as an Archive.
9. A United Kingdom
A United Kingdom is a biographical
romantic drama, directed by Amma Asante
and starring David Oyelwowo and
Rosamund Pike. The screenplay, by Guy
Hubbert is based on the true-life romance
between Sir Seretse Khama and his wife
Ruth Williams Khama.
The film is based on a true story. Sir
Seretse Khama (David Oyelowo) is the
Prince of Bechuanaland (now Botswana).
In 1948 he meets and falls in love with
London office worker Ruth Williams
(Rosamund Pike). But their interracial
relationship is not approved of by either
of their families, nor by the British and
South African governments. Seretse and
Ruth must defy family, apartheid and the
British empire to return from an imposed
exile to their African kingdom, and
assume power after independence.
Donald, has a supporting role as the
character of Kabelo.
