With this sound I used the ‘wind’ VSTI plugin. This sound was
designed to be a repeatable clip that would be used in the
background of a barren scene, such as a wasteland, mountain or
desert.
When interacting with the instrument itself, I adjusted the filters to
create a colder, more ‘open-air’ variant of the wind sound, mostly by
lowering the frequency of the sound effect. I also increased the amp,
which caused the sound to increase in volume, thereby giving it a
stronger sense of depth and presence.
This sequence gives the wind a sense of movement, as if it was moving closer and
further away, due to the changing pitch, and thus avoids sounding too ‘flat’ in tone.
This sequence is repeated once for the purpose of demonstration.
