The New Jersey State Council on the Arts (NJSCA) FY13 budget allocated most of its $17.27 million in revenue to grants. Nearly three-quarters of NJSCA grants were General Operating or Program Support grants, followed by Co-sponsored Projects grants and Local Arts Program grants. These grants funded a wide range of artistic disciplines and supported 229 direct grants as well as nearly 500 additional grants through Local Arts Program partners across all of New Jersey's counties. In addition to its funding, NJSCA grantees had a large economic impact on the state through 17,000 jobs, 37,000 events, 5 million patrons, and over $325 million generated for New Jersey's private economy.
If the world's population was represented by a village of 100 people:
- 57 would be Asian
- 21 would be European
- 14 would be American
- 8 would be African
There would be:
- 52 women and 48 men
- 30 Caucasians and 70 non-Caucasians
- 30 Christians and 70 non-Christians
- 6 people would possess 59% of the total wealth
- 80 would live in poverty
- 70 would be illiterate
- 50 would suffer from hunger or malnutrition
- 1 would be dying and 1 would be born
This perspective highlights the need for acceptance and understanding between all people.

Texas; Rainwater Harvesting: Potential and Guidelines for Texas - Texas Wat...D2Z
The document analyzes the potential for rainwater harvesting in Texas. It finds that harvesting rainwater from just 10% of the state's roof area could generate an estimated 38 billion gallons of water annually, equivalent to 104 million gallons per day of new water supply. Rainwater harvesting has significant untapped potential to augment water supplies in Texas, especially in urban areas, and could help address the state's growing water demand challenges. The report recommends that Texas promote rainwater harvesting through various policies and programs.
1) The document discusses the opportunity for technology to improve organizational efficiency and transition economies into a "smart and clean world."
2) It argues that aggregate efficiency has stalled at around 22% for 30 years due to limitations of the Second Industrial Revolution, but that digitizing transport, energy, and communication through technologies like blockchain can help manage resources and increase efficiency.
3) Technologies like precision agriculture, cloud computing, robotics, and autonomous vehicles may allow for "dematerialization" and do more with fewer physical resources through effects like reduced waste and need for transportation/logistics infrastructure.

Here is a literature review on childhood obesity:
Introduction
Childhood obesity has become a growing epidemic in many countries around the world. This literature review will examine some of the key research on factors contributing to childhood obesity as well as potential interventions and prevention strategies.
Contributing Factors
Several studies have identified environmental and lifestyle factors that increase the risk of childhood obesity. Increased access to fast food and sugar-sweetened beverages has been linked to higher obesity rates (Kim et al., 2016; Bleich et al., 2017). Children who live in neighborhoods without access to parks or recreational facilities are also more likely to be obese (Datar & Chung, 2015). Additionally, increased screen time such as watching TV, playing video games

"$10 thousand per minute of downtime: architecture, queues, streaming and fin...Fwdays
Direct losses from downtime in 1 minute = $5-$10 thousand dollars. Reputation is priceless.
As part of the talk, we will consider the architectural strategies necessary for the development of highly loaded fintech solutions. We will focus on using queues and streaming to efficiently work and manage large amounts of data in real-time and to minimize latency.
We will focus special attention on the architectural patterns used in the design of the fintech system, microservices and event-driven architecture, which ensure scalability, fault tolerance, and consistency of the entire system.
How information systems are built or acquired puts information, which is what they should be about, in a secondary place. Our language adapted accordingly, and we no longer talk about information systems but applications. Applications evolved in a way to break data into diverse fragments, tightly coupled with applications and expensive to integrate. The result is technical debt, which is re-paid by taking even bigger "loans", resulting in an ever-increasing technical debt. Software engineering and procurement practices work in sync with market forces to maintain this trend. This talk demonstrates how natural this situation is. The question is: can something be done to reverse the trend?

Chris Jones, Director of Product Management at BrainChip , presents the “Temporal Event Neural Networks: A More Efficient Alternative to the Transformer” tutorial at the May 2024 Embedded Vision Summit.
The expansion of AI services necessitates enhanced computational capabilities on edge devices. Temporal Event Neural Networks (TENNs), developed by BrainChip, represent a novel and highly efficient state-space network. TENNs demonstrate exceptional proficiency in handling multi-dimensional streaming data, facilitating advancements in object detection, action recognition, speech enhancement and language model/sequence generation. Through the utilization of polynomial-based continuous convolutions, TENNs streamline models, expedite training processes and significantly diminish memory requirements, achieving notable reductions of up to 50x in parameters and 5,000x in energy consumption compared to prevailing methodologies like transformers.
Integration with BrainChip’s Akida neuromorphic hardware IP further enhances TENNs’ capabilities, enabling the realization of highly capable, portable and passively cooled edge devices. This presentation delves into the technical innovations underlying TENNs, presents real-world benchmarks, and elucidates how this cutting-edge approach is positioned to revolutionize edge AI across diverse applications.

zkStudyClub - LatticeFold: A Lattice-based Folding Scheme and its Application...Alex Pruden
Folding is a recent technique for building efficient recursive SNARKs. Several elegant folding protocols have been proposed, such as Nova, Supernova, Hypernova, Protostar, and others. However, all of them rely on an additively homomorphic commitment scheme based on discrete log, and are therefore not post-quantum secure. In this work we present LatticeFold, the first lattice-based folding protocol based on the Module SIS problem. This folding protocol naturally leads to an efficient recursive lattice-based SNARK and an efficient PCD scheme. LatticeFold supports folding low-degree relations, such as R1CS, as well as high-degree relations, such as CCS. The key challenge is to construct a secure folding protocol that works with the Ajtai commitment scheme. The difficulty, is ensuring that extracted witnesses are low norm through many rounds of folding. We present a novel technique using the sumcheck protocol to ensure that extracted witnesses are always low norm no matter how many rounds of folding are used. Our evaluation of the final proof system suggests that it is as performant as Hypernova, while providing post-quantum security.
