Marketing Communications Public Relations
Communications is a broad term. The field of
communications covers a range of industries from tech to social
media. It is becoming more specialized by the day.
To become an expert practitioner in the field is to become multi-
disciplined in your approach. My experience is broad and through
necessity, I have integrated many methods into my mix.
Public Relations, Employee Relations, Media Relations, Client
Relations, and Crisis Communication Management are all a part of
my paradigm.
Storytelling is the art of communicating key messaging in a way that
engages all stakeholders including employees, clients, and industry
partners. Using storytelling tools: packaging, video production,
script writing, and media coaching recently lead to winning an
international recognition for an employee.
In April of 2015 Baltimore City experienced a phenomenon that
was sweeping the nation. The Baltimore Uprising was the result of
a protest that took a dark turn. Civil unrest and chaos gripped our
streets. Through this dark period, I worked closely with city-wide
crisis communications teams, in-house clients, and staff to pull off
an event taking place in real time.
This was uncharted territory that led to the
the development of a case study for working through crisis
communications. I presented the case study at the 2015 IAEE
ExpoExpo Convention.

Marketing Integration is the art of melding brand,
public relations, social media, corporate responsibility, and advertising
together in a way that creates a seamless experience for your audience.
Instead of attempting to gloss over issues that led to the Baltimore Uprising
of 2015, we worked with incoming clients to connect them with the City of
Baltimore, by giving them an opportunity to be a part of the solution.
I worked with the International Association of Venue Managers (IAVM) in
August of 2015 connecting the group with our local chapter of United Way.
Together we organized “The Stone Soup” event.
Volunteers from this international organization went into an area school that
was ground zero for the uprising, made meals, and distributed them to the
community. The event was featured on two local news channels, and shared
on Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn. See local news coverage.
My own volunteer efforts have led me to lend a hand to my community
association. As an executive board member, I wanted to use my skill set to fit
a need in the community. To address the issue of community involvement,
I’ve created an interactive, integrated marketing and communications plan for
the neighborhood that targets current residents, perspective residents, and
real estate agents.
The plan includes the utilization of social networking sites like NextDoor,
surveys, and an ad campaign that features neighbors expressing their love for
the neighborhood. The messages will be distributed using social media and
through realtors who sell in the neighborhood. This is my passion project.
Branding is the process of creating a unique image for a product,
service, company or person. Branding can be accomplished through visual
effects like color, tone, or graphics, or through sound using music, catch
phrases, and tag-lines.
Consistant themes come together to create a recognizable and
distinguishable image.
As the Public Information Officer for the Baltimore Convention Center, I
manage the brand collateral, serve as project manager for outsourced work
,and graphic designer for in-house projects.
Image is also a great way to brand a business through the persona of
ownership. This is illustrated below for GameOn Fitness and Coach
Donte Samuel.
