This document provides consumer awareness information for those moving, both within and outside of Illinois. It outlines how to recognize moving scams, how to find a licensed mover, what to do if scammed, and important tips. Scams are identified by lack of documentation, cash-only demands, and unlicensed movers. Consumers should obtain references, check licenses and complaints, and be wary of too-good-to-be-true prices. If scammed, contact authorities immediately. Moving interstate requires extra precautions like verifying federal licensing and watching out for hostage holding or bait-and-switch tactics. Key contacts are provided.
The document discusses the ethical dilemmas faced by self-driving cars in emergency situations where harm cannot be avoided. It uses a thought experiment about a car that has to choose whether to hit a motorcyclist, SUV, or not stop and hit a truck, as an example. The document argues that the choice made in such a situation would be a pre-determined decision based on the emergency response algorithm coded into the car, rather than an instinctive reaction. This raises questions around who should determine how the car should respond and who would be responsible if the response results in harm.

Letter to Commissioner, NYC DOT About Unconscionable Boot and TowLawrence Berezin
This is a letter we sent to the Commissioner of the NYC Department of Transportation alerting her to the unconscionable and costly double penalties inflicted by booting a car and two hours later towing it to the pound for the same violation (fine for boot and fine for tow).
Vehicles with over $350 in unpaid parking, red light camera, or bus lane tickets may be booted, which attaches a device to the wheel to prevent movement. To remove the boot, all fees and judgment debt must be paid by credit or debit card. If not paid within two days, the vehicle may be towed. The boot is painted yellow for visibility and instructions are left for payment and removal.

The document argues these reforms can address traffic, pollution, and make parking and development more efficient and affordable.

How many parking tickets can a parking ticket warrior issue
during the course of a day for the same parking violation while
your car is parked in the same space? (See Top 10 Tips #10)
In 2011 approximately 9.5M parking tickets were issued
generating more than $570M in revenue. Many of the parking
tickets were justified. But, many were scandalous and beatable.

ranging from a simple $35 parking ticket for an expired meter
violation all the way up to a $180 for parking an unauthorized
vehicle in a handicap parking zone. There are legal “curb cuts”
and illegal “curb cuts.” What’s the difference? Can you stop
temporarily to drop off a passenger in a no standing zone? What
activities can you perform in a no parking zone?

outcome of her NYC parking ticket fight. She won because her
photograph of the fire hydrant clearly, unequivocally, without a
shadow of a doubt, persuaded the NYC parking ticket judge the
pump was not pumping. Parking Ticket dismissed. Copy and
