the International University in Germany. Florian
Leibert traveled extensively throughout Europe while
studying in Germany and considers the Spanish city
of San Sebastian one of his favorite destinations.
One of Spain’s most popular tourist destinations, San
Sebastian, is located on the Bay of Biscay, just 12
miles west of the French border. Known locally by its
Basque name of Donostia, it is home to the San
Sebastian International Film Festival and renowned
for its numerous other cultural attractions and
festivals, as well as its beaches.
Visitors can refuel at the city’s many restaurants and
sidewalk cafes, most of which specialize in seafood.

3. San Sebastian, Spain
 Diners should expect to spend a couple of hours at the
dinner table. Attire is important, and many restaurants
won’t seat those wearing shorts or t-shirts, although
business casual is acceptable. As with much of the rest of
Spain, dinner is served later than what most Americans are
used to, and it’s not at all unusual to begin a 3-hour meal
at 10 p.m. Visitors who have hunger pangs earlier can slip
into one of the city’s many tapas bars for a quick snack
and a drink.
Because so many of the city’s restaurants are popular, it’s
a good idea to make reservations well before you arrive. In
fact, some restaurants recommend making reservations 2
to 3 months in advance. The best way to experience a
broad range of a restaurant’s offerings is to order the
tasting menu, or “menu de gustacion,” a full-course meal
which includes a sampling of several menu items.
