Viscri is a small village in Transylvania, Romania known for its fortified church from around 1500 AD that is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The village has historically had around 50 households and was never owned by nobles. Today it has approximately 500 inhabitants, only 27 of which are ethnic Saxon descendants of the original Transylvanian Saxon settlers. The village is located 40km from Sighisoara and has been restored through the efforts of the Mhai Eminescu Trust founded by Prince Charles of Wales, with the goal of preserving not only Viscri but other Saxon villages in the region as well.
