submarine
Being a port city, the submarine museum in Visakhapatnam tops the list of Visakhapatnam
sightseeing places. The museum is actually established within the submarine called INS
Kurusura. Located on the shores of Rushikonda Beach, the museum consists of pictures and
artefacts that depict the life of warriors. Taking one through the life of the warriors, it is
definitely one of the best places to visit in Visakhapatnam.
Striking a perfect balance between religious sites, beaches, forests, wildlife, and historic
places, Visakhapatnam is one place that doesn’t disappoint anyone anytime. Dedicated to
Lord Narasimha, the Simhachalam temple is another attraction that draws a huge number of
travellers to the city. Hindu Housing a horse-drawn chariot made of stone at the front, and
grandly decorated with elephant idols on the boundaries, the Hindu temple is one among
the best tourist places in Vizag to visit.
Borra &araku
For history lovers, Borra caves are one of the best places to visit in Visakhapatnam. Set amidst
the Ananthagiri Hills in Araku Valley, it is considered to be one of the largest caves in the
country and is located at an elevation of about 705 meters. The caves were discovered way back
in 1807, and ever since, they’ve become a popular tourist attraction. Made of karstic limestone,
travellers can witness the real beauty of these structures when the natural skylight paves its way
in. Being kaleidoscopic in nature, tourists can also admire the enigmatic beauty of evergreen
forests, scenic landscape, and the breathtaking views that surround the Borra caves.
Known by the locals as Borra Guhalu, the Borra Caves of Vizag are one of the most
adventurous places to visit in Vizag..
The Borra Caves are filled with speleothems, stalactites, and stalagmites at an elevation of 705
m themselves. Roughly 80 m deep, these caves consist of karstic limestone and are considered
the deepest in the country. As a tourist, you will enjoy the scenic beauty of the caves as you
walk on complex trails to reach the caves. Do not forget to revel in the locals’ stories about the
history and the presiding deity of the caves.
VALLEY&KAILASAGIRI
Located in the scenic locales of Vizag, Kailash Giri is a beautiful hilltop park perched at a
height of 360 ft. Sprawling over 100 acres of lush green land area, the park is perched on a
hilltop and it offers scenic panoramic vistas of the surroundings and the beach below. The
highlight of the place are the magnificent 40 feet statues of Shiva and Parvati painted in
white.Among the attractions available, the best ones include Titanic Viewpoint, Floral Spot,
Gliding Point, Jungle Trails, Shanti Ashram, Shanku Chakra Nama and more. You can also
reach here in a ropeway ride that is another major attraction. Besides, there is also a Toy Train
available for the kids. You can also enjoy horse riding here other than admiring the bounteous
natural beauty. Bollywood films have been shot at the Park for its scenic views and the beautiful
location which is at a juxtaposition of the Bay of Bengal and Kailasagiri hills.
Ropeway Ride is an actual route to reach the hilltop other than being a major attraction at the
place. Inaugurated in 2004, the thrilling ride offers mesmerising views of the surroundings and
a high adrenaline rush. The cabins are installed with fibreglass windows, enabling the
passengers to enjoy a beautiful bird’s eye view of the forest, valley, and beach.
Titanic has been our favourite since time immemorial. Ever since we have watched the film, we
cannot refrain from pulling out that iconic scene on a boat, every chance we get. Here, your
dreams can be fulfilled. There is a magnificent viewpoint developed here which overlooks the
vast Bay of Bengal. The viewpoint has been constructed in the form of a ship and you can find
several romantic couples posing for pictures here.
Shiva Parvathi statues are obviously the most popular takeaway from the place. It is believed
that initially there was a Shiva temple at the hilltop. So when the park was being constructed,
the temple was reformed into magnificent statues of Shiva and Parvathi. Standing with a
towering height of 40 ft., a waterfall emerges from the statues that are a symbol for River
Ganges.
As far as your eyes can go, you will see every inch of land in Araku Valley covered with
greenery. It is one of the best places to visit in Vizag for nature lovers. Moreover, the view of
lofty mountains against coffee plantations will definitely enchant you to the core and leave
you in awe. So, if you want to witness the natural beauty of Vishakhapatnam tourist places

vijayanagaram
Vijayarama Raju-I laid the foundation of Vizianagaram fort in 1713 A.D. on
the auspicious day of Vijaya Dashmi. The Victory arch was the main entrance
to the Vizianagaram fort prior to the construction of Nagaar Khana. It has a
temple of Lord Hanuman on one side and Goddess Lakshmi on the other. The
Goddess is also known as ‘Kota Shakti’ or the guardian of the fort. The Raja of
Vizianagaram would seek blessings of the Goddess before embarking on any
military expedition. The main entrance to the fort is through the East Gate.
Nagaar Khana is situated atop this gate. ‘Nagaara’ is an Indian percussion
instrument. A literal translation of ‘Nagaar Khana’ would mean ‘Drum Room’.
It was used for drawing attention of the people for announcing royal edicts.
The drummer also used the Nagaara to announce and alert the inmates to the
arrival of royal guests. The West Gate is the rear entrance to the Vizianagaram
fort. This gateway is built in Rajasthani style and has a viewing pavilion on
top. It connects the fort to the Pedda Cheruvu and to the royal tombs. As per
Hindu customs and traditions, the deceased should be taken for cremation only
from the rear door of the household. The West Gate with the royal tombs close
by served this purpose. The fort was surrounded by a moat. The area between
the west wall and the moat has been converted into a splendid park with well
laid out gardens and lush green lawns by the present day administration.
ramanarayanam
A comparatively recent addition,
Ramanarayanam is a religiously themed
complex depicting scenes of the great
epic of Ramayana. The centrally air-
conditioned edifice houses the
sculptures in a unique bow and arrow-
shaped construction. In the evenings,
the entire area is colourfully lit up and
cultural programmes are often organised
in a huge hall (Kalyana Mandapam). A
Lord Vigneswara Temple is at the
entrance and at the tip of the arrow, a
60-feet-high Hanuman statue has been
installed which is visible even from a
distance of 1 km. Stretching over an
area of 20 acres, the park is home to
verdant greenery, including nine sacred
trees. In addition, there are temples
dedicated to Lord Rama and Vishnu, a
huge library with over one lakh spiritual
books, and a meditation centre. The vast
campus is also home to a residential
Veda Pathshala and a boutique
vegetarian restaurant.

Vizianagaram
fort
The Bobbili Rajas built a
number of palaces to lavish
hospitality on their guests. The
Raj Mahal, also known as the
Chikkavaram Guest House, is
one such palace. It is situated
in isolated splendour on the
outskirts of modern day town.
Visitors to the palace have to
traverse a long driveway to
reach the palace premises. It
was built in 1888 by Maharaja
Venkata Swetha Chalapati
Ranga Rao.
Bobbili fort
The founder of House of Bobbili, Pedda
Rayudu, was the 15th descendant of the
Rajas of Venkatagiri. He came into the area as
part of the contingent of Golconda Fauzdar
Sher (Tiger) Mohammad Khan. He founded
the town, built a fort, and named it Pedda Puli
(Great Tiger) after the name of his patron.
With the passage of time, the name was
corrupted to Pebbuli, Bebbuli and finally
Bobbili. The town was almost wiped out
during the war against Vizianagaram, which
ended in the tragic massacre. Though no
remnants exist of the original Bobbili fort,
there are numerous palaces which serve as
residence for the royal family. The Durbar
Mahal was built in 1893 as a meeting hall
where the Raja held his court and received
royal emissaries. Two stone elephants stand
guard on either side of the steps leading to the
‘Durbar’. Today, the first floor houses a
museum of various artifacts pertaining to the
Bobbili of yore, while the lower floor is used
as the office.
motimahal
The Moti Mahal was constructed in 1869
by Vijayarama Raju-III as the Maharaja’s
court. The monument echoes memories of
a grand past wherein a resplendent king
assisted by richly dressed courtiers held
court and administered the kingdom in
their collective wisdom and goodwill. The
main door is decorated with two exquisite
marble statues which speak of the good
taste as well as the wealth of the
occupants. The Moti Mahal is the main
and most prominent building in the
Vizianagaram fort. It was donated to the
MANSAS Trust by Dr. P.V.G Raju. Today,
it serves the noble purpose of furthering
education by housing a college meant
exclusively for women on the first floor.
The link with its past is maintained
through a display of artifacts in a museum
on the ground floor of Moti Mahal.
Raamateertham
On Bavikonda Hill, about 13 kilometres
distant from Vizianagaram, you’ll find the
location known as Raamateertham. It is
well known as a location that is graced
with a Lord Rama Temple that is over a
thousand years old and was constructed in
the 16th century during the rule of
Pashupati rulers.
The fact that the temple is built on top of a
huge rock is perhaps the most eye-catching
aspect of the structure. Another body of
water known as Lake Koneru may be
found in close vicinity to the temple. The
remains of Buddhist Mahasthupa, which
are located near the temple, are located on
a hilltop known as Gurubukhatakonda.
This hilltop is also a popular tourist
destination in the region. Bricks were used
in the construction of the shrine, which
spans 19 feet in height and 65 feet across
at its widest point. It is embellished with
sculptures of Jain Tirthankaras.
Srikakulam surya
The fabled Sri Suryanarayana Swamy Temple,
which is popularly known as the Sun Temple of
Andhra Pradesh, is present right here in
Arasavalli, which is only 118 KMs away from
Vizag, and devotees can come here by public or
private road transport. The fabled Sri
Suryanarayana Swamy Temple is known to be
the only sun temple of India where rituals and
prayers continued uninterrupted since it was
constructed as this tourist attraction centuries
ago, and this marvel tourist place was built by
the Kalinga rulers of Odisha. Many devotees,
followers, and history & Spirituality
enthusiastic visitors line up inside and outside
the temple to witness the divine sight, and the
sun rays directly fall on the deity on auspicious
Ratha Sapthami, which is the most distinctive
feature of the temple architecture. This alone
feature is enough to allure tourists, especially
those who are devoted to the God of the Sun,
from all over India, but the temple architecture
is also so beautiful and perfect that architecture
enthusiasts and history lovers come to visit this
temple from all over the world
Kurma nadha
swamy
Apart from the beautiful stone
carvings, a rare kind of Star
Tortoises are a special
attraction of this temple. A park
was also built there to conserve
this rare kind of tortoise.
To reach this temple nearly 15
kilometers from Srikakulam,
you have to take a bus from the
RTC complex or book a taxi
there. It’s better to visit this
temple after Arasavalli because
both the temples are on the
same road.
mukhalingam
This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva
and was built around the 9th century.
Every year locals participate in
Chakratirtha Snana, which is considered
to be a holy bath in the river
Vamsadhara. This temple is about 50
kilometers from Srikakulam city and it’s
well connected by road. You can easily
find a bus to this place from Srikakulam
bus stand.
You may feel like you went to a remote
place, but you will be amazed by seeing
the wonderful stone carvings there.
Without the help of any advanced tools
in those days, architects carved the
temple manually and it shows the level
of devotion towards the work they are
doing.
salihundam
Salihundam is the most exciting
place to visit in Srikakulam. It lies
at the top of a hill beside the bank
of the Vamsadara river in
Salihundam village. It is a
Buddhist heritage site.
Archeologists say that the
remnants date back to the 2nd
century! On the hill, you will also
find a museum along with
Buddhist stupas. It is one of the
favorite destinations for picnics in
that region. You will also get very
enchanted with the view of the
Vamsadhara river from the top of
that hill. For reaching this place
also you can simply take a bus or a
taxi.
