ROLE OF CAVEOLIN-1 AND NRF2 IN NUTRITIONAL MODULATION OF PCB TOXIMichael Petriello
This dissertation examines the role of caveolin-1 and Nrf2 in modulating polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB) toxicity through nutritional interventions. Studies using endothelial cells from caveolin-1 deficient mice and in vitro silencing assays found that loss of caveolin-1 increases antioxidant enzymes by upregulating Nrf2. Mice fed a green tea polyphenol-enriched diet and exposed to PCBs exhibited lower oxidative stress and higher antioxidant enzyme levels than controls. Pretreating endothelial cells with nitro-linoleic acid altered caveolin-1 and Nrf2 proteins, modifying responses to PCB exposure. Together these findings support that nutritional modulation may reduce disease risks from environmental pollutants.

Oxford Professor Says Genetically Altering Unborn Babies Personalities A Moral Obligation

Genetically screening our offspring to make them better people is just “responsible parenting”, claims an eminent Oxford academic, The Telegraph reports.
Professor Julian Savulescu, editor-in-chief of the Journal of Medical Ethics, said that creating so-called designer babies could be considered a “moral obligation” as it makes them grow up into “ethically better children”, this based on a few genetic links to ‘personality disorders’.
He said that we should actively give parents the choice to screen out personality flaws in their children as it meant they were then less likely to “harm themselves and others”.
Studies show that the child’s upbringing, including parenthood and schooling methods are the root causes of many ‘personality flaws’. Other studies give strong evidence that nutrition, meditation and exercise greatly influence behavioural patterns and emotional well-being. This entire theory is also blind to the side effects of many medicines, vaccines, food additives and (some) GMO foods that have been proven to affect psychological behaviour, and this isn’t even touching on the possible beneficial use of marijuana and other substances for those with undesired personality traits.
“Surely trying to ensure that your children have the best, or a good enough, opportunity for a great life is responsible parenting?” wrote Prof Savulescu, the Uehiro Professor in practical ethics.

The essay agrees with the writer's disapproval of John Kerry's support for stem cell research. It argues that (1) science should not be used as a political tool or made into exaggerated claims, (2) human embryos deserve respect and rights as developing human life, and (3) embryonic stem cells are currently unsafe and unreliable for treatments. However, the essay also believes that limiting science is wrong and research should continue to find solutions, not end. It provides examples to support most points but makes assumptions about embryos and lacks justification for one argument.

Sub: Request for providing an opportunity to carry out research in Immunology and
Cancer Biology
Date: 4th December, 2007.
Sir,
Most respectfully I would like to bring your kind notice to the following facts in nut shell
for your perusal and necessary immediate action for my problem to be solved out.
#1. That I’m possessing B.V.Sc (secured First Class) from West Bengal University of
Animal & Fishery Sciences, Kolkata, M.V.Sc (Parasitology & Immunology, secured First Class)
from India’s premiere Veterinary Research Institute, Indian Veterinary Research Institute,
Bareilly, UP, and Ph.D. (Immunology and Cancer Biology) from one of India’s five best
Universities, Jadavpur University, Kolkata. I was awarded with almost all possible scholarships
from the Govt. of India (5 yrs National Scholarship for UG study, 2 yrs Junior Research
Fellowship for PG study, and 4 yrs Senior Research Fellowship for Ph.D).
#2. Following submission of my thesis I joined the laboratory of Dr. Randy Brutkiewicz
(Associate Professor, Dept. of Microbiology and Immunology, Indiana University School of
Medicine, Walther Oncology Center, Bldg R2, Rm 368, 1044 West Walnut Street, Indianapolis,
IN-46202, USA. Tel: 1-317-274-7589/7501/7502, Fax: 1-317-274-7592; E-mail:
rbrutkie@iupui.edu) for Post-Doctoral Research with Fellowship. There also I continued my
research on Immunology and Cancer Biology. At the stage of completion of my research work
Dr. Brutkiewicz was afraid of as my research work would go against his earlier publications
resulting in non-publication of my research paper from his laboratory. He had created tremendous
mental pressure upon me and forced me to leave his laboratory. He doesn’t issue any
recommendation in favour of my candidature, which is utmost required for the benefit of my
future career.
3. #3. Later, I switched to the laboratory of Dr. Vipin Kumar, Member [Professor], Torrey
Pines Inst. for Molecular Studies, 3550 General Atomics Court, San Diego, CA-

92121, Tel: 1-858-455-3870/74, Fax: 1-858-455-3804, Email: vkumar@tpims.org. When
I was engaged with my research work in the laboratory of Dr. Kumar, Dr. Brutkiewicz
interfered with Dr. Kumar and made scandalous remark about me to Dr. Kumar. Dr.
Kumar forced me to do the research work in line with earlier work carried out in
Brutkiewicz laboratory, which I protested vehemently, and didn’t want to continue the
same in Kumar laboratory. Of note, the research work in which I was engaged could open
a new horizon in the field of “Immunology & Cancer Biology” and whole world would
be benefited. The work corroborates with the hypothesis published by another famous
scientist, Prof. Richard Blumberg, Harvard Medical School, USA. Fighting against all
oppression and taking severe mental pain I completed my assigned task, and Dr. Kumar
assured me orally as well as through e-mail sent on 6th June, 2007 (Photo copy enclosed)
for the publication of my work. But I’m in apprehension whether Dr. Kumar has taken
any positive steps to publish the same under the circumstances stated above. Henceforth,
I fervently request you to kindly take up the matter with Dr. Kumar or with the highest
level in the American Government for publication of my paper as early as possible, if not
possible, kindly recommend me at any good Biological Research Institute in India to
carry out my work independently so as to prove my ability and for which I assure that my
country will be benefited and the work will open new avenues in the field of
“Immunology and Cancer Biology”.
With all due sincerity I must assure to render my best brain work to serve my
country and in return I optimistically expect immediate action from the end of the Govt.
of India, especially from Your Honour.
With kind regards,
Yours Faithfully,
Keshab C. Roy.

7. Sub: An application requesting for the investigation of an unethical laboratory.
Date: 2nd March, 2006.
Dear Sir,
With all due respect I beg to draw your kind attention for the following matter. I joined
the laboratory of Dr. Vipin Kumar at Torrey Pines Institute for Molecular Studies, San
Diego, CA, USA on July 2004. In due course of my research I was coming across
different kind of complications which can be classified as:
1. coercion for scientific misconduct
2. prohibition to follow up results and asking questions in fear of secret worries
3. mismanagement of laboratory reagents including radioactive substances
4. corollary pressures including unhealthy laboratory environment.
Despite all these odds I was trying to maintain the harmony keeping a hope that I can
publish my work which is essential for my career. But it was a false hope until few days
back on 25th Jan, 2006 Dr. Kumar wanted to dismiss me within one month imposing a
false blame on me. Decision taken by Dr. Kumar and Mrs. Garitta after few meetings and
e-mail exchanges is a complete injustice to me. Their decision is going to harm on my
future job opportunities as well as it doesn’t guarantee the publication of my work. I’ve
consulted two lawyers and understood that the affair is too costly to afford for getting
back the justice. Moreover, I’ve very limited period of time to take all necessary actions
for the justice. Henceforth, I’ve decided to bring the whole episode into the light of this
Supreme Authority of Biological Research of Government of United States of America
(NIH) in anticipating getting back the lost justice. In my opinion, it’ll be an ideal case for
this renowned Governmental Agency to study how “modern biological research
laboratory has developed unique machinery with astounding ability to make subordinate/
co-worker oblige to the system and thereafter utilize them for the propagation
Dr. Joan P Schwartz

of their personal scientific thoughts which might not have complete proof, and those who
don’t want to get entangled with or foil this machinery is subjected to be the victim of
8. injustice and blame.” As I have good faith on investigative procedure and thereafter
meticulous decisions taken by this Premiere Authority of Biological Research in the
World, and being a law abiding immigrant to this country and citizen of India I do hereby
declare that I would take full responsibility of my speech and deed. I’m providing one
hundred and forty one pages of self-attested statements and documents for your kind
perusal and consideration for investigations. For further communications I’ll be available
in the below mentioned addresses.
I will be grateful to your authority forever if you kindly look after this file and take
necessary actions at your earliest.
Thanking you,
Faithfully Yours,
Keshab Roy, M.V.Sc, Ph.D

Metamorphosis
I didn’t walk a long thoroughfare
As my poet did for thousand years.
Even I couldn’t send my word
25. At each door across the world.
A soundless, mute Parasuram**, I am
Passing on along the broken path
Of a decayed civilization, gripping an
Ancient sword in my hand.
Yet I do keep boundless
Aspirations in my heart.
One day, in a shining morning
I’ll have the chance of seeing
(That) a despised uterus will beget
A wonderful creation, a great-heart:
A youthful life is ever green.
Winking at the firm-fist of the dirty
Distressed, enraged and egoistic war-mongers,
An Angel will appear.
Sitting calmly at my glass window
Closing my eyes always
I sense His presence;
As if He is singing a song of salvation.
Eyes of mine are full of vision,
Able piercing darkness of pain;
Feeling the warmth of unveiling sun –
A beam of light signifying my expectation.
Yet I am the NILKANTHA**** of new age
Caught in the noose of snake
Embodiment of grief, agony and disappointment.
Rainbow’s healthy hues of creative emotion
Becomes a melancholic blackness
As rebounds off an oppressing heavy mountain.
26. Whole world demands food and nutrient;
Ethics, morality, skill and art
Are the violent nightmares.
A vain humanright
Tripping on the cavity of a street of science
In the dense darkness of a new-moon midnight –
The new twist of my imagination.
And here only I have seen
The ray of hope, grandeur of grace,
My visionary love, and contemplation.
**A Great Hindu Mythological Hero
****A God who consumed poison in order to save the existence of universe and
following its consumption he called his wife as mother to save his life.
Dream
Yes it’s a dream!
And you’re true to seem,
That puts into insanity,
One looses its brevity.
Fidelity! Far off realization;
Happiness! Beyond imagination;
Tossing and turning! Like Hercules
While combating with Octopuses
Only when you’re in dream.
That’s dream that cultivates civilization.
Clarion call of an Apostle
27. Becomes a cacophony of clamor
When interrupted.
Optimist metamorphosed pessimist
Becoming slave of its instinct.
That’s a dreadful dream when
Rationality boozes with emotions,
Humanity dwells in delusions,
Creeps into the waves of
Fraudulent hopes and expectations.
