2. When people visit Hope Hall they are impacted by different
aspects of our school; some notice the beautiful art work created by
our students, others comment on the wooden furniture and marvel
at the skill it takes for young people to design and craft these items
from scratch, while still others reflect on the attentiveness of the
children in the classroom and how engaged they are in the learning
process. But the one thing that everyone notices is the joy on our
students’ faces, and the fact that they truly seem happy to be at school.
The truth is, most of our students
never experienced joy in the classroom before coming to Hope Hall.
Traditional school settings are designed for philodendron and cactus,
students who don’t need a lot of care to thrive. But our students are
more like African Violets (which are always in bloom.) They need a
little more attention and a specialized approach, and when they
get what they need, they thrive just as well as anyone else.
Here at Hope Hall, we celebrate differences and believe that,
given the right environment, every child can learn. Every
thing we do specializes in meeting the needs of “violets.” Our
students need more time, a smaller setting, and special strategies
in order to blossom and grow as learners and individuals. These
strategies work, which is evident in our 100% graduation
rate, and in the smiling faces of our students who feel safe,
accepted, and valued.
As we begin to plan for the 2019-2020 school year, our 25th
Anniversary,
we need your help to ensure Hope Hall students continue to have the access to the kind of education
they need and deserve. The Violet Fund provides $400,000 a year in
scholarship money to students who need our educational approach,
but cannot afford the already drastically reduced tuition. Hope Hall
receives no funding from school districts or government sources, so
donors are integral to meeting the needs of our students.
