Vincent Van Gogh was a Dutch post-Impressionist painter born in 1853 who is now widely regarded as one of the greatest artists of all time. He struggled with mental illness and poverty throughout his life, but produced over 900 paintings and 1,100 drawings during the last 10 years of his life before dying by suicide at age 37. Though he sold only one painting during his lifetime, his work is now among the most expensive ever sold, with individual pieces selling for over $100 million.
