Study system in Lithuania and VU The Law on Higher Education, adopted 2000  The three level system (except medicine and law) first ( undergraduate: Bachelor programmes); second (graduate: Master, specialised professional programmes); third (doctoral studies; residency). For a Bachelor programme 4 years studies (160 national or 240 ECTS credits) The Law on Higher Education allows the duration of first cycle programmes 3,5 - 4,5 years, from 140 to 180 national (210 ECTS 270 ECTS) credits
ECTS system- 60 credits is the workload of a full-time student during one academic year 1 ECTS credit  equals to 25 to 30 working hours. It is awarded for successful course completion Lithuania has its national credit- 40 work hours by a student per week, equal to 1,5 ECTS credit. School year- 40 credits  Credit accumulation is allowed at other faculties, study programmes, universities. VU uses ECTS for the exchange purposes with other  institutions.
