5. Cracking
2. Journey of Man This intriguing film explained how scientists used DNA patterns from all over the world to determine that all of us humans originated from one tribe in Africa.
3. Journey of Man They took us back in time, and explained how this one tribe moved all over the world to eventually populate the planet. They explained genetic variation, and how certain people developed certain tones of skin color. They also pointed out (as proof) how the tribe had facial features of almost all cultures known today.
4. The Story of God This film explained the natural human instinct to search for a divine right to bring us all together. Robert Winston explained the different religions, religious buildings, sacrifices, the after-life, and more.
5. The Story of God The Narrator also took us back in time to an ancient cave where early people may have worshiped what they believed to be the divine right. He explained how they believed that every being was somehow connected, this included people, animals, plants, and even rocks. The earth worked in unison when all these elements were connected, and now that humans realized that they were different, they are working their way to becoming one with this world to work in peace again. It seems like all religions aim toward peace, and have a goal if achieving some sort of wisdom to succeed in this world.
6. Little Ice Age This film explained the drastic events and effects of the Ice Age. The world wasn’t prepared for the “big chill” that left many cold and hungry. The cold temperatures affected a lot more than just the weather.
7. Little Ice Age The glaciers began slowly creeping its way onto our lands. The cold weather left many cold, sick, and hungry. Because of the low temperatures, farmers found it nearly impossible to grow certain crops, leaving them with little to no income in this time of need. The glaciers traveling south were even thought to have caused the collapse of the Vikings in Greenland. As tough as the were, they couldn’t escape the cold.
8. Guns, Gems, and Steel This film tells the story of humanity’s journey over a period of time beginning with the end of the last Ice Age. It explains how certain tribes and civilizations took over surrounding areas, and why others failed to do so. It looks at how their history was shaped, and how they are shaping our history for today.
9. Guns, Gems, and Steel The Narrator discusses his beliefs that certain civilizations were able to succeed because of the environmental differences each community faced. Some were luckier than others. This film answers the questions of why some civilizations were able to obtain technological advances, and why some were left in poverty for so long. This film was based on a book called, Guns, Gems, and Steel, written by Jared Diamond.
10. Cracking the Maya Code This film documents the mysterious writing and drawing of the Mayas- known as hieroglyphics. For centuries people thought these drawings were too complex to ever understand, until recently a group of people were able t crack the code and understand more about the mysterious Mayas.
11. Cracking the Maya Code The Maya writing system was used in what is now Mexico and Central America- until the arrival of Cortes. The new Spanish ruling outlawed the language and burned many traces of it. In the 19th century, the Maya code began to emerge as ancient cities and writings were found deep in the jungles. It took many people to come together to break this code, but today, 90% of the mysterious writing is understood.
12. Catastrophe 535 A.D.- At a time when everything seemed to being going wrong in the same world we walk on today, David Keys believes there is a catastrophic even that led to the demise of civilizations, the spread of the plague, and the death of millions.
13. Catastrophe Accounts of a hazy smoke clouding earth’s pathway to sunlight caused David Keys to believe that something greater must have happened than just attributing it to ancient weather patterns. One of his theories was that an asteroid hit the earth. He began looking through tree rings for evidence of changes in weather or natural surroundings.
