There are three main video formats: HD, PAL, and NTSC. HD has the highest resolution with either 720 or 1080 vertical lines in the image. PAL is the UK standard definition format with 576 vertical lines, while NTSC is the US standard definition format with 480 vertical lines. Formats are now defined by pixel count, such as 1080p with 1920x1080 pixels or 2,073,600 pixels total.
