The word “Victory” is
mentioned in four passages in
the New Testament.
The first we will reference is in
Matthew 12 where Jesus is
quoting from Isaiah 42
Matthew 12:15-2115 But when Jesus knew it, He withdrew
from there. And great multitudes
followed Him, and He healed them all.
16 Yet He warned them not to make Him
known, 17 that it might be fulfilled which
was spoken by Isaiah the prophet,
saying:
Matthew 12:15-2118 “Behold! My Servant whom I have chosen,
My Beloved in whom My soul is well pleased!
I will put My Spirit upon Him,
And He will declare justice to the Gentiles.
19 He will not quarrel nor cry out,
Nor will anyone hear His voice in the streets.
Matthew 12:15-2120 A bruised reed He will not break,
And smoking flax He will not quench,
Till He sends forth justice to victory;
21 And in His name Gentiles will trust.”
VICTORY COMES THROUGH FAITH IN
JESUS!
The second is in 1John 5 where
John says VICTORY comes
through faith in Jesus
1John 5:1-51 Whoever believes that Jesus is the
Christ is born of God, and everyone who
loves Him who begot also loves him who
is begotten of Him.
1John 5:1-52 By this we know that we love the
children of God, when we love God and
keep His commandments.
3 For this is the love of God, that we keep
His commandments. And His
commandments are not burdensome.
1John 5:1-54 For whatever is born of God overcomes
the world. And this is the victory that
has overcome the world—our faith.
5 Who is he who overcomes the world,
but he who believes that Jesus is the Son
of God?
The third is in 1Corinthians 15
where Paul is discussing the
resurrection, the ABSOLUTE
VICTORY that comes through Jesus.
He uses the word “VICTORY” three
times in vss. 54-57
1Corinthians 15:50-5750 Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and
blood cannot inherit the kingdom of
God; nor does corruption inherit
incorruption. 51 Behold, I tell you a
mystery: We shall not all sleep, but we
shall all be changed—
1Corinthians 15:50-5752 in a moment, in the twinkling of an
eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet
will sound, and the dead will be raised
incorruptible, and we shall be changed.
1Corinthians 15:50-5753 For this corruptible must put on
incorruption, and this mortal must put
on immortality.
1Corinthians 15:50-5754 So when this corruptible has put on
incorruption, and this mortal has put on
immortality, then shall be brought to
pass the saying that is written: “Death is
swallowed up in victory.”
1Corinthians 15:50-5755 “O Death, where is your sting?
O Hades, where is your victory?”
56 The sting of death is sin, and the
strength of sin is the law. 57 But thanks be
to God, who gives us the victory through
our Lord Jesus Christ.
The fourth is in Revelation 15
where John describes those who
have obtained the ABSOLUTE
VICTORY that comes through Jesus.
Revelation 15:2-42 And I saw something like a sea of glass
mingled with fire, and those who have
the victory over the beast, over his image
and over his mark and over the number
of his name, standing on the sea of glass,
having harps of God.
Revelation 15:2-43 They sing the song of Moses, the
servant of God, and the song of the
Lamb, saying:
“Great and marvelous are Your works,
Lord God Almighty!
Just and true are Your ways,
O King of the saints!
Revelation 15:2-44 Who shall not fear You, O Lord, and
glorify Your name?
For You alone are holy.
For all nations shall come and worship
before You,
For Your judgments have been
manifested.”
In Jesus!
