he alls on the
Zambeze River. L ocated on the border
between Zambia and Zimbabwe, in
the L ivingstone district of Zambia and
the H wange district of Zimbabwe.
They are 1.7 km wide and 108 metres
high, an extraordinary spectacle.W ater
dropping into a narrow and very deep
abyss.

4. David L ivingstone visited the F alls in 1855
and named them in honour of Queen
Victoria. Locally they are still called “M osi-
oa-T unya”, which means the smoke that
thunders.
It is one of the greatest tourist attractions
on the African continent.
In 1989 UNE SCO declared these falls a
H umanity H eritage Site, covering a
protected area of 8,780 hectares.
