The Alfven - Magnetosphere Ionosphere Connection explorers is a proposed multi-spacecraft mission to study how auroras work. It would consist of a pair of cylindrical satellites carrying 11 instruments in two reference orbits. The mission aims to investigate large and small-scale particle acceleration along magnetic field lines, auroral kilometric radiation, and ionospheric ion outflows. As part of a student project, a draft design was proposed for the power, communication, and attitude control subsystems. An alternative scenario using three satellites was also investigated.
