Vatroslav Lisinski was a Croatian composer born in Zagreb in 1819 and died there in 1854. He was born to a German-Jewish family. He wrote his first work, a solo song from Zagorje, in 1841 after receiving encouragement from amateur singer J.K. Wiesner von Morgenstern. From 1842 to 1847 he worked as a notary for the Banski Stol and composed several choral works, solo songs, piano compositions, and Croatia's first opera called Ljubav i zloba. Today, the concert hall in Zagreb is named after him, with concerts regularly taking place in the 1,847 seat venue built in 1973.
