Thanksgiving has changed over the years from a harvest festival celebrated by the Pilgrims and Native Americans to a national holiday celebrated in the United States. It was first celebrated in 1621 as a three-day harvest feast between the English colonists of Plymouth and the Wampanoag tribe. In 1863, President Lincoln declared Thanksgiving a national holiday to be celebrated on the last Thursday of November.
