This novel about a Mormon family at the turn of the century in Utah became a family favorite that Mother read to the entire family. We lived it in our own way then, because we loved the sentiments it shared. The story continues today in multiple homes and lives of posterity.

•Fatima did kitchen clean up and
dishes after our Greek night.
•She frequently contributes baking
and plays hostess at our Wednesday
morning coffee.
•She is one of the new members of the
social committee.
5. Terry Alscher
•Terry did the reminder calls to all of our July 1st
volunteers.
•She collected tickets for our Greek night and also
for our spring dinner.
6. Diane Anderson
•Diane is a member of the social committee.
•She is in charge of our bar. She applies for the
liquor licenses and purchases all the stock. She also
acts as bartender at most of our pub nights and
special events.
•She helped with set up for our volunteer
appreciation last year and she ordered and served
the wine.
•She, Rosa Steinbronn and Ann Brokop are in charge
of decorating for all our events.
•Again this year, Diane organized the New Years’
dinner and the party that followed it. She booked
the musicians and hired the caterers. She did set up and decorating
and supervised the clean up that followed.
•She and Rosa did the table settings and decorations for our Oscar
night and for the spring dinner.
•She was also one of those who plated desserts for the spring
dinner.

serve dinners for the wind up of
each of our many snooker
tournaments.

set up for our Christmas coffee.
•She also acted as hostess for our
regular Wednesday morning coffee.
•She has delivered newsletters in the

that Kensington residents made to
the food bank and to our Halloween
at the gate and delivered those to
the club house.

8. Lloyd Anderson
•Lloyd is a member of the crew that
maintains and services our sprinkler
system.
•This past year, he and other members
of that group were recruited to install
new receivers in the garages of all of
the town houses.
•He was involved in putting up the
outdoor Christmas lights at the front
of the clubhouse and along the entry
boulevard.
•He decorated Chelsea’s entrance and
put up the tent for our Halloween at
the gate.
•He distributed candy to the youngsters who came by.
•He helped cleaning the koi pond.
•Lloyd along with Dave Pritchard has organized our snooker
tournaments.
•He helps Diane when she is restocking the bar.
9. More about Lloyd:
•Lloyd helped with both the set up and the
clean for our Halloween party and for New
Year’s eve.
•He did set up for the Robbie Burns’
supper.
•He sold 50/50 tickets at the spring dinner.
•He has made the coffee for out Wednesday
morning coffee gathering.
10. Evelyn Baillie
•Evelyn helped clean up after our last
year’s volunteer appreciation party.
•She cut up chickens for our July 1st box
dinners.
•She did kitchen clean up after our
Halloween party.
•She scrambled eggs for the breakfast
after the polar bear swim.
•She sorted the recycling for our Greek
night dinner and again for our spring
dinner. (Some people just get all the
glamorous jobs.)

•Dale swept up after last year’s

•He helped take down canopies and

after the Robbie Burns’ supper and
after our spring dinner.
13. Gary Beirns
•Gary is the treasurer of our Strata Council.
•Once a week he attends at Crossroads
Management and signs cheques.
•He receives a detailed accounting of the
month’s financial transactions from
Crossroads and summarizes those on a
spreadsheet.
•He then presents this summary together with
any required explanations to Council.
•He prepares the annual budget for Chelsea
Gardens and this is provided to residents
prior to the AGM each year.
14. Gladys Bittner
•Gladys is one of our most faithful
bartenders and it is a rare month when
she is not on duty for at least one
evening.
•She regularly brings baking and plays
hostess at our Wednesday morning
coffee.
•She delivered newsletters.
15. Dave Brennan
•Dave worked on the set up
for out Christmas concert.
This involved putting up the
stage as well as setting up
electronic equipment.
•He was also the emcee for
our spring dinner.
16. Yvonne Brennan
•Yvonne is our very patient and proficient choir
director. She ordered music and made practise
CD’s for choir members so they could start
learning their parts before she returned from
holidays.
•From October through to early December she
oversaw the weekly practises.
•She directed the choir at our Christmas concert
and also performed herself.
•She and a few others led the carol singing at our
Christmas coffee.
•At our Canada Day celebration she helped
decorate and serve the cupcakes.
•She sold 50/50 tickets at our spring dinner and
at some of our Friday pub nights.
•She regularly contributes baking and plays
hostess at our Wednesday morning coffee.
17. Ann Brokop
•Ann is a member of the social committee.
•She looks after all of the snacks for our pub nights.
•She plays accordion and is one of the musicians
that leads our sing-alongs. She played at the
Christmas concert and the hymn sing.
•She did clean up after last year’s volunteer
appreciation party and after the spring dinner.
•She acted as custodian of the museum exhibits on
July 1st, gathering them up and securing them in a
locked storage cupboard so the owners could pick
them up later.
•Ann was one of those who organized and worked on the Christmas
decorating.
•She did set up for the New Years dinner.
•She along with Agnes bought and planted the planters for our pool deck.
•She delivers the newsletter at the Kensington.
•She contributed baking and helped set up Christmas coffee.
•She also takes her turn baking and playing hostess at our weekly coffee.

•Reinhart organized the crew that put
up the exterior lighting at Christmas
time.
•He comes in Saturday mornings to
clean up after the Friday pub nights.
•He makes the coffee for our
Wednesday morning coffee for a
month at a time.

sitting of the spring dinner.

•Bill was in charge of cooking corn for our chuck wagon
barbecue in September.
•He also supervised the making and plating of the trifle
for our spring dinner.
•He comes in Saturday mornings to sweep up the pub
and empty the dishwasher.

•Bea regularly brings baking and takes a turn playing
hostess at our Wednesday morning coffee.

•Donna is a member of the social committee.
•She helped with setting up the food for last
year’s volunteer appreciation event.
•She then greeted guests and provided them
with name tags and drink tickets.
•She helped set up the “museum” for our July
1st celebration and supervised the displays.
•She brought baking for our Christmas coffee
and helped with setting the tables for that

Renate has stepped into the role
of our number one litter control
officer on the streets around
Chelsea Gardens.

•Brian is one of the Adopt-a-Block volunteers who picks up litter from
the streets around Chelsea.
•He and Veronica regularly stay after coffee to put away chairs and
tables.
•He worked on the set up for our Greek night.
28. Bill O’Sullivan and Barry Jones barbecuing chicken
skewers for our Greek night dinner.
29. Lois Degryp
•Lois served at our September chuck wagon
barbecue. Though it wasn’t a job she’d been
assigned, she stayed and was actively involved
in the clean up as well.
•She served sausages at the polar bear dip
breakfast.
•She skewered chicken and vegetable for our
Greek night dinner.
•She has also delivered newsletters.

•Judy sold tickets for our September 5th
chuck wagon barbecue.
•She served potatoes at our Greek night.

•Joyce helped organize the Windsor’s
carolers’ welcome. She contributed
handsomely to this party.

at our regular Wednesday morning coffee.
32. Adrienne Dresser
•Adrienne cleared tables and served
desserts and coffee at our spring
dinner.
•She regularly plays hostess to the
monthly coffee mornings at the
Kensington.

•Al helped set up canopies for our July 1st celebration.
•Gerry sang in the choir at the Christmas concert.
•Al and Gerry did kitchen clean up and washed dishes after our

•Meredith, along with Kathy Rozek, baked
and iced cup cakes for the 160 guests at
our Canada Day celebration.
•On July 1st the final touch was added.
She put flags on the cupcakes and then
was one of those who brought them
around to all the guests.
•She did dishes and kitchen clean up
after both the Robbie Burns’ dinner and
the spring dinner.

•Maria leads the osteo and bands exercise programs any time
that Lorraine or Simone is away.
•During the summer she brings the CD player to the pool and
sets it up to guide participants through their aquasize.
36. Elaine Galley
•Elaine is the treasurer of the social
committee. She pays our bills and
maintains our financial records. She
prepares the year end report that is
presented at council’s AGM.
•She helped setting out food for last
year’s volunteer appreciation.
•She supervised the packing of the
dinner boxes for our July 1st event.
•She helped decorate for Halloween.
•She sold 50/50 tickets at our
Halloween party.
•She picked up the treats that were
donated and helped distribute them to the kids who came to our gates.
•She brought baking and did set up for the Christmas coffee.
•She served the coffee and tea at that event.
•She was one of those who organized and served the appetisers and baking
that guests brought to share after our Christmas concert.

need for new deck furniture around the pool and checking out suppliers
and prices.

Wednesday morning coffee.

Walkers in the Sun Run.

•Bruce is our sound man and
manages the microphone
volumes and mixes for our big
July 1st celebration as well as
the Christmas concert. With
some help from friends, he
does his own set up.
•Gerry is one of our more
accomplished photographers.
•She is a member of the
Chelsea Singers choir that
performs at Christmas.
•More significantly, it is she who works with Yvonne Brennan to
pre-record the various parts to each of the songs that will be
sung. She then burns disks so that choir members can practise
learning their parts at home.
•Gerry sold 50/50 tickets for our spring dinner.

•Chester helped with set up of
the museum that we had as part
of our July 1st celebration.
•He did set up and managed
props for our Christmas concert.
•He is a member of the choir that
performed for that event.
•He used his own truck and
hauled the flat deck we used for
our caroling.

system for our Robbie Burns’
night supper.

50. Kathy Hurley
•Kathy was one of last year’s volunteers who stayed behind after our
volunteer appreciation event to put away furniture and clean up.
•She helped pack the dinner boxes for July 1st.
•She worked in the kitchen preparing the meals for our Halloween party.
•She took photographs at our spring dinner.
51. Bernice Hutton
•Bernice is the chair of our Strata
Council.
•She sets the agenda and calls the
meetings to order.
•In addition to chairing the Council
meetings which take place at least once
a month and last 3-4 hours, she
regularly meets with Ross Ruddick and
staff about matters of concern to
residents.
•She, along with Gary Beirns and Garry
Kirkland, attend a weekly meeting with
Crossroads Management.
•She helped organize and prepared food
for the meal that followed last summer’s
golf tournament.
She was involved in distributing and programming new fobs and
cards for the security system that was installed this past
summer.
52. Bob Hyde
•Bob moved furniture to make room for our
volunteer appreciation party last year.
•He picked up extra tables that we needed for
July 1st and returned them at the end of the
day.
•He and Jerry Horne picked up the chicken,
salad and buns for our July 1st dinner.
•He took down canopies and put away furniture
at the end of that event.
•He video recorded our Christmas concert and
made DVD’s for those who wanted to buy
them.
•He did clean up after our New Year’s eve party.
• He worked on set up for our Robbie Burns event.
•On our Oscar night he served us all in style.
53. Terry Hyde
•Terry is the chair of the social committee.
•She prepares our agendas, chairs our
meetings and acts as one of our liaisons
with council and Crossroads.
•She worked on the set up for last year’s
volunteer appreciation event and helped
arrange the food platters.
•She helped plan the meal served at our July
1st celebration.
•She supervised the packing of the dinner boxes and arranged to have
them all delivered to refrigerators until it was time to serve them.
•She was on the organizing committee for our September chuck wagon
barbecue and helped with the food preparation.
•She was on the organizing committee for our Halloween party. She
made and served chilli and stayed after the event to do clean up.
•She made soup for the workers who were at the gate on Halloween
evening.
•She helped with the Christmas decorating

•She has worked with Patti cleaning and organizing kitchen cupboards and
the closet upstairs.

polar bear swim breakfast.
56. Margy and Zenon Jalbert
•Margy and Zenon are newcomers but they have been
quick to become involved. They served desserts and
coffee at the second sitting of our spring dinner.
•Zenon also helped with set up for Greek night.
•He has started helping on the irrigation crew.
57. Lorraine Job
•Lorraine looked after beverage service
at the Christmas Prelude.
•She served vegetables at our spring
dinner.
•She brings baking and plays hostess
at our Wednesday morning coffee.
58. Barry Jones
•Barry sorted recycling at our July 1st
celebration last year.
•He did dishes and kitchen clean up
after our Robbie Burns’ supper.

•In the summer of 2013, Mike and Phil
Smith began the job of repairing and
replacing the latticework dividers and
fencing between the townhouses. This is a

our Christmas coffee where he

•Maureen assembled boxes for our

•Barry is one of the most involved members of our irrigation crew and
works tirelessly keeping our sprinkler system in working order.

townhouse owners when our security system was updated last fall.

other members of the Bible study

•Agnes is one of the newer members of the
social committee.

stayed and did clean up.

Robbie Burns’ dinner. She helped with the
shopping, made the gravy and half of the apple
crumble and then worked in the kitchen and
supervised service.
•She was one of the organizers for the Greek
dinner. She peeled and roasted potatoes for
about 100 guests. She also made all the honey
cake.
•She made scalloped potatoes for the spring
dinner.

•Agnes tells us that Bill peeled a lot

Where do we begin?
•Let’s start with the music. Dave plays keyboard and
clarinet. He also sings and does the set up of
speakers, microphones, music stands and goodness
know what all else.
•He did this for each of our monthly pub night sing-
alongs.
•He provided background music for our Canada Day
celebration.
•He led us when we went around caroling at Christmas.
•He played for Christmas coffee.
•He accompanied the singers at the Christmas Prelude.
•He was one of organizers for the Christmas concert.
•He accompanied the choir and individual singers there as well as

•He did the sound system set up for our Robbie Burns’ supper and led a
sing-along after.
•He ran the karaoke at our Greek night and through an oversight was left
to put away all the furniture after it was over.

•He has made up song sheets and assured that
the music needed for our sing-alongs was

•A couple of years ago, he and Lloyd Anderson
organized a pool tournament. It was so popular
that many other competitions have followed.
Dave remains actively involved as an organiser

•He has given snooker lessons to some of our
new players.
•He plays bridge on Tuesday nights and along
with a few of the other players, he stays
afterwards to move furniture and set up tables
and chairs for the Wednesday morning coffee.

94. More about Patti:
•Patti along with Elaine Galley and a
representative from council spent a lot of
time this past year assessing the condition
of the pool deck furniture and determining
how to bring this up to standard. They
checked and priced out various replacement
options and reported back to the social
committee and also to council.
•Once the new furniture was purchased, residents were invited to the
pool reopening to see it. Patti and Rosa Steinbronn set up
refreshments for that morning. Patti made the muffins.
•Patti and Terry Hyde clean and reorganize the kitchen cupboards and
the storage closet upstairs from time to time.
•Patti also delivers the newsletter.

•Elsie has brought baking and
played hostess for our
Wednesday coffee.
•She is one of the Tuesday
night bridge players who stays
