Internal Colonialism and Uyghur Representation in China’s Emerging Global Media discusses how China projects certain historical narratives and cultural representations of minorities like Uyghurs through its growing global media network and ethnic tourism industry. This bolsters a Han ethnic identity while marginalizing minorities and distorting their history and culture. It also examines how China uses these outlets to combat external dissent and project its doctrinal narratives into the global discourse to growing political, societal, and economic consequences, especially for Uyghurs in Xinjiang. Further research is needed on related CCP policies and discussions, as well as impacts on Uyghur communities and identities.
