The USS Arizona was a battleship commissioned in 1916 that served in World War I and was stationed at Pearl Harbor in 1941. On December 7, 1941, the Arizona was attacked and sunk during the Japanese surprise attack on Pearl Harbor, resulting in over 1,100 crew deaths. Most of the crew were killed either from the explosion that caused fires on the ship or from being trapped below as the ship sank quickly. The USS Arizona now lies at the bottom of Pearl Harbor and serves as a memorial and burial site for the crew who died during the attack.
