What is a travel day?
A travel day lasts 24 hours from midnight to midnight. On each travel day you can board
as many trains as you want, provided your Interrail Pass is valid for that train network.
How many travel days do I need?
On average, it only takes 1 travel day to go from one European city to the next. The
number of travel days you need depends on the length of your trip and how many cities
you want to visit.
What is the 7pm Rule?
This rule means you only need to use 1 travel day when travelling on a direct night train
that departs after 7 p.m. and arrives at its final stop after 4 a.m.
Do I need to make train reservations?
You need to make train reservations for all night trains and high speed trains. If you
don’t make reservations for the night train, you’ll be sleeping in the corridor because
they’re always packed. Most French trains have limited seats for InterRailers so reserve
these too! For all other trains, book your departure when you arrive!
Are reservation costs included in my pass?
No, but it’s not very expensive to make a reservation – usually between €5-€10 per train


InterRailers
 Sleep on trains, explore in cities (apart from Switzerland!)
 Be spontaneous as much as possible, this is what InterRail represents
 If somewhere doesn’t feel right, pull the plug and move on
 Hostels are an incubator for the craic! Get to know your fellow InterRailers
 Night trains can get cold – blankets, sleeping bag are a good idea
 Don’t overpack – use laundry services, you’ll be moving a lot
 Girls, have a safe place for all your stuff. Guys, same advice just beware of
man bag insults
 Bring a lock for hostel lockers
 Adapters!
 Jenga, cards, Heads Up are all great ways to pass the time you travel
