1) The socioeconomic status of Muslim immigrants in Western Europe has generally remained low since they first arrived after WWII as guest workers. They have faced discrimination in employment and education opportunities.
2) While higher levels of religiosity among Muslims are linked to more conservative social values, research also shows that being Muslim has little effect on views of democracy, national identification, and trust in political institutions in Western countries.
3) Discrimination is a significant barrier holding Muslims back economically. About half of the employment gap between Muslims and non-Muslims cannot be explained by individual factors like education, implying religious discrimination. However, cultural and religious factors also play a role in the lower labor participation of Muslim women.
The document discusses the negative effects of gender wars and marital failures on young adults and society. When motherhood becomes a chore due to stressors, it chokes off the potential of infants and future generations. Children are becoming partially motherless as mothers need to work for independence, impacting their development. This generation dismembers the goddess within themselves and society due to a lack of stable role models and disrespect for femininity. As a result, young adults do not feel a responsibility towards others, creating social and economic problems as the population ages. The paper argues for policies that restore nurturing feminine aspects to regenerate society.
The document discusses relative poverty among Ethiopians living in Jerusalem compared to native Israelis. It analyzes several key factors that contribute to their relative poverty, including level of education, unemployment/low-paying jobs, social inequality, larger family size, lack of gender equality, and health/nutrition issues. The Touching Hearts Foundation is conducting research through an intensive survey to measure the extent of relative poverty among this group and develop a plan to address it.
The document compares religion's role in the socio-politics of Mexico and Brazil. It finds that while both countries have large Catholic populations and religion is important to most citizens, they differ in church participation rates. Mexico has lower rates of membership in religious organizations, suggesting individual or family practice. Brazil has higher membership rates, implying a preference to share faith communally. Both countries also exhibit progressive stances on issues like gender roles and homosexuality despite conservative religious traditions.
Israel's international standing is in dire straits as the legitimacy of its policies and existence as a Jewish state are constantly contested. To better advance its national interests, Israel needs to win the "battle of the narrative" by improving its international communication strategy. Currently, Israel does not have a clear narrative or understanding of its own identity to communicate. An effective strategy would start by defining Israel's "brand" or character, and formulating a multidimensional message tailored to different audiences, while acknowledging criticism of its policies and the challenges it faces from groups seeking to delegitimize it.
The document summarizes a book that examines the relationship between the US and Israel and debunks myths about their alliance. It argues that US support for Israel is based on shared values and interests between the societies, not on the influence of Jewish lobbies. While governments act based on national interests, broader public and congressional support in the US is guided by beliefs that Israel's existence fulfills biblical prophecy. The book is presented as providing useful context for policymakers in the US, Israel, and other nations like India on developing cooperative relationships.

Abstract: In the US, a pro-Israel foreign policy does not represent the triumph of a small lobby over the public

professionals. To understand Washington's support for the Jewish state, one has to understand the depth,

The document discusses how Israel uses propaganda tactics known as "pinkwashing" to portray itself as progressive and supportive of LGBTQ rights, in order to distract from its violations of Palestinian human rights under the apartheid system. It provides examples of how Israeli government organizations and non-profits promote Israel's LGBTQ-friendly image abroad, without acknowledging the oppression of Palestinians. It also highlights Palestinian LGBTQ groups advocating for boycotts against Israel to oppose the apartheid policies.
The document discusses the ideological and socioeconomic factors contributing to internal instability in Pakistan. On the ideological side, it analyzes how the process of Islamization since the 1970s has radicalized Pakistani society and linked religious extremism to political goals. It also discusses how socioeconomic problems like poverty, unemployment, and illiteracy have created an environment conducive to extremism. Specifically, it notes that over 60% of Pakistanis live below the poverty line, literacy rates remain low, and unemployment is high. This combination of ideological and socioeconomic drivers has nurtured militancy and challenged government authority.
American policy toward israel, the power and limits of beliefsMalath Alagha
This document provides context on the relationship between the United States and Israel. It explains that the relationship is viewed as "extra-special" or having a "special relationship" due to cultural, religious, moral and historical ties between the two countries. However, the policies that result from these emotional ties go beyond moral support and involve significant economic, military, and political assistance from the U.S. to Israel. The U.S. has provided over $146 billion in aid to Israel since World War II, making Israel the largest cumulative recipient of U.S. foreign aid. This aid includes military financing that allows Israel to maintain military superiority over its neighbors. The relationship also involves preferential trade agreements and defense cooperation beyond what is provided
This document provides historical context on the Israel-Palestine conflict. It discusses how both groups began nationalist movements in the late 19th century to reclaim the land they consider holy based on their religious scriptures. This led to the 1948 war and mass displacement of Palestinians and Jews. The creation of the PLO in 1964 aimed to liberate Palestine through armed struggle. Repeated violence and expulsions of Palestinians from Jordan and Lebanon strengthened their sense of distinct identity and bolstered interpretations of religious texts that supported violence. Several intifadas and periods of violence have occurred since 1987 despite attempts at peace agreements.
1) The book reviews Israel's founding in 1948 and the expulsion of Palestinians, which the author argues has obstructed peace efforts. While the author acknowledges the removals were unjust, he believes they were necessary to establish a viable Jewish state.
2) The book explores Israel's identity challenges as a Jewish state and examines controversial issues like settlements and ethnic cleansing during Israel's founding that continue to impact the conflict.
3) Younger Israelis are more critical of Israel and judge it based on its treatment of citizens, rather than just its existence, as older generations are more accepting of due to their experiences with existential threats faced by Israel.
Rethinking islamist politics, culture, the state and islamism by salwa ismailtopbottom1
This document provides an overview and summary of the book "Rethinking Islamist Politics" by Salwa Ismail. Some key points:
- The book aims to provide an account of Islamist activism by examining the socio-political contexts and "infrastructures of action" rather than invoking Islam as a unitary entity.
- It focuses on both macro-level factors like state structures, but also micro-level processes like how Islamist activists mobilize at the neighborhood level and engage with communities.
- The book examines the heterogeneity of Islamist movements and how their discourses generate meanings in relation to historical contexts rather than referring to sacred texts alone.
- The author argues against generalizations about the
Informal Israel Education Among the RSJ Teens in NAYuliya Serebryana
This document discusses the Russian-speaking Jewish (RSJ) teenage population in North America and existing informal Israel education programs for them. It notes that RSJ teens represent the 1.5-2nd generations of families who immigrated from the former Soviet Union between the 1970s-present. While proud of their Jewish identity, most RSJ teens do not feel fully connected to mainstream American Jewish communities. The document then outlines several overnight camps and year-round programs led by Jewish organizations that aim to educate RSJ teens about Israel and Jewish culture through informal recreational activities in order to better engage this population.
This document provides an overview of the topics that will be covered in HIST 4325 Israeli-Palestine Conflict. It includes brief definitions of Orientalism and some of its key critiques. It also touches on competing narratives between Jews, Palestinians, and Christians over claims to the Holy Land. The first paragraphs of the Israeli and Palestinian declarations of statehood are presented. Finally, it provides a short history of Palestine from the 9th century BCE to the present.
This document summarizes the rise of the Christian Right in the United States over the past four decades. It discusses how the movement built a mass base across the country and became influential in the current Bush administration. The analysis examines the complex relationships between different strands of the movement and their links to other groups like the pro-Israel lobby. It also looks at how the movement has deployed strategies inspired by Gramsci's theory of a "long march through the institutions" to grow its influence over American culture and politics.
This documentary film called "The Invisible Men" tells the story of gay Palestinian men seeking refuge in Tel Aviv from their hostile homeland, but ignores Israel's occupation of Palestine. The film is part of Israel's "Brand Israel" campaign to improve its image through pinkwashing, or portraying itself as the sole gay-friendly country in the Middle East. The film promotes concepts like homonationalism, which constructs Israel and the West as protectors of gay rights while casting Palestinians as backwards and in need of civilizing. By focusing only on a few assimilated gay male characters, the film erases other queer experiences and Palestinian resistance, justifying ongoing Israeli occupation.
The Origin of the Palestine - Israel ConflictHear O World
This document provides a summary of the history of the Palestine-Israel conflict from the Palestinian perspective. It begins by stating that the conventional view is that both sides are at fault, but the Palestinians have a real grievance as their homeland was taken from them during the creation of Israel, mostly by force. It then outlines the history of Palestine to show how the Zionist colonization process occurred and displaced the indigenous Palestinian population. The document argues that the root cause of the ongoing conflict is this original injustice against the Palestinians and that a moral solution would involve Israel assisting in the creation of a sovereign Palestinian state.
This document is an introduction to a dissertation investigating how Israeli citizenship constructs women's place in society as mothers. It begins by defining citizenship as consisting of three pillars - participation, rights, and identity. It then discusses how citizenship has traditionally been a masculine concept focused on military service and exclusion of women. The introduction explores the public/private divide and its gendering effects. It previews how the dissertation will analyze how Israel's republican citizenship model, religious influences, and emphasis on military service have crafted women's role as fulfilling their duty through motherhood rather than equal citizenship. The introduction establishes the theoretical framework that will be used to examine how Israeli citizenship discriminates against women.

Here are the key points made in the literature review:
- Many scholars marginalize the influence of religion in political discussions, emphasizing strategic, political, and economic concerns instead.
- Those studying the secular environment in the EU limit discussion of religion's influence to its generic cultural impact, except regarding Middle East policy and European Muslims' beliefs.
- Scholarship on Israel evaluates how its "Jewish" designation relates to its democracy, but often marginalizes religiosity within Israel as a cultural matter of identity enforced by the state.
- The literature presents three perspectives on the association between religious beliefs and foreign policy:
1) Other factors like strategic, economic, and political interests influence policy more than religious beliefs.

1. USA Connecting in Israel-Palestine Matter
What has U.S. support for Israel meant for the Israeli state? Which state abilities have
improved and which abridged as a result of this support? And what impact has this had on
Israeli culture and its budget at large? To answer such queries would involve stipulating the
nature of U.S. connection in Israel-Palestine, spelling out the kinds of rules and objectives
the U.S. state has allowed the Israeli state to follow. It would involve raising the specter of
Israel as a foreign and inhabiting power, and this the various contributors to Israel seem
grudging to do.
Colonialism and occupation are far from usual concerns in the Israeli academy. It may sound
strange since both practices have well-defined Israel's history since 1967, if not before. Yet it
is not so bizarre if one considers that in this esteem, the Israeli academy merely reflects the
attitudes of broader Israeli society: academic dodging mirrors widespread denial and
indifference.
Israel is a particular case in the Middle East; it is backed by expansionism without being
economically exploited. It has always been the case in the past: expansionism used Israel for
its political purposes and paid for financial support. There is no reason at all to accomplish
from this study that everything Israel does cause by outside pressure or foreign interest to
be able to raise the significant connection that makes between expansionism and Israeli
settler-colonialism.
Israel is constitutively allied with Western benefits in the region: the state-building and
colonizing projects are sustained and combined by Western powers. In contrast, Western
objectives are satisfied and realized. Such a stable geopolitical configuration has provided
Israel with both prospects and constraints the wars of 1956 and 1967 constitute essential
markers in this pattern.
2. As "Israel as colonial-settler state" produces in the academy, Israel's backing and support by
U.S. imperialism misplace its constitutive value in Israeli society's study. An accurate
estimate of the U.S. role in the region presented in its place.
The liberal economic values of the Israeli business communal are naturally more consonant
with a liberal beginning of nationality than with the ethnic-republican conception of ground-
breaking civic virtue. Thus, these business leaders have been encouraging liberal reforms in
the economy and civil rights, the electoral system, health care, education, mass
communications, and other social life areas.
It is then clear that the types of U.S. peace and decolonization have to be theoretically
unglued. And the association between globalization and political liberalization is broken.
U.S. hegemony and market fundamentalism are more likely to type religious
fundamentalism than abundant values. Israel has indeed understood that there is no
employment, no growth, and no rejection of Palestinian nationwide rights without U.S.
support. As long as this program continues to be the leading one in Israel, its dependence on
the United States will continue. It will also actively fund to opening up a public space for critical
reflection and discussion on the United States in Israel. The full story of the Americanization of Israel
has been told, even though it is dominant in its history.
