The Regus Work-Life Balance Index, which surveys over 16,000 professionals in more than 80 countries, has registered 24% rise between 2010 and 2012. This is a positive indication that now even more workers globally believe that conditions are improving and that measures are being taken to help them successfully manage to balance their personal and their work time.
The Regus Index calibrates work-life harmony by combining a number of different factors, both ‘soft’ indicators such as feelings of enjoyment, sense of achievement and satisfaction with the amount of time spent at home, and ‘hard’ factors such as working hours and additional duties in order to monitor real improvements in the lives of professionals all over the globe. In 2012, some 61% of business people globally feel that their work-life balance has improved since 2010. Although a positive majority, this figure still has considerable room for improvement as the decade advances.

Do Metro Atlanta Residents Have Access to Jobs & Amenities?ARCResearch
This month we ask a simple question: Do metro Atlanta residents have access to jobs, services and amenities? This question is important as the way we design communities has a strong impact on quality of life. Is housing affordable near where one works? Are transportation costs eating away at whatever savings realized by an affordable home further away from job centers?

In 2017-8, Michael Burrill forwarded his ideas on how cities can encourage Smart Growth and fund regional rail transit lines - without raising taxes - to public officials and interested citizens in several cities. Attached are his latest slides that use tax revenues from Transit-Oriented-Development (TOD) in Cincinnati as an example. Most other regions can anticipate similar results - with revenues from TOD at least five to 20 times the cost of new light rail lines.
Census data can provide a unique picture of local communities, by providing information on indicators such as household income levels, the age and education-level of a population, the race and ethnic makeup of a community and how a population has changed over time. This type of information is particularly useful when trying to write a grant proposal to demonstrate the need for resources within a community, or when trying to assess the needs and issues of a community. This session will explain how to access census information and use it to create maps and graphics to visualize the information being written about in proposal submissions.

Identifying U.S. Urban Mobility Leaders For Innovation Opportunities; Cities are becoming smart. By investing in solutions that take advantage of the potential of big and open data to increase efficiency, cost savings, and opportunities for the public, cities are rapidly transforming into “smart cities.” But with over 90,000 local governments in the U.S., how do you know what cities will benefit the most from smart city initiatives? Here at CivicConnect we set out to answer that question, with a special focus on smart mobility. www.civicconnect.com

Innovative changes to urban areas are occuring rapidly, spurred by social media connectivity that has launched "livability" initiatives that are adding parks, green plants, bike lanes, and other transportation and environmental enhancements to cities. The goal is both to enhance their own living area while also attracting residents back to urban cities. Much of the change, when you think about it, is actually a suburbanization of cities. People living in the suburbs already have green all around them, whether it is their own yards or the big park down the street and along their drive to work or in their school playgrounds. Urbanists want that sense of fresh air and ability to connect and meet with neighbors more easily. Hence, the suburbanization of urban areas, creating meeting areas and bringing more green to the city.

Next Generation Vehicles: Electric Cars, Emissions, Commuting, and ParkingMarcus Bowman
Electric vehicles, part of the next generation of transportation, are beyond concept, and into production. The costs and emissions of electric cars are compared vs traditional motor engines. And then the implications for vehicle miles traveled (VMT), commuting, and parking are introduced.
Due to the 2007 CAFE standards and new technology, vehicles are about to become radically more fuel efficient. These charts illustrate a 60% reduction in emissions from the average car.

Assessing the Influence of Transportation on the Tourism Industry in Nigeriagsochially
This research dissertation investigates the complex interplay between transportation and the tourism industry in Nigeria, aiming to unravel critical insights that contribute to the enhancement of the overall tourist experience. The study employs a multi-faceted approach, literature review establishes a robust theoretical framework, incorporating The Service Quality and Satisfaction Theory to guide the research questions and hypotheses.
The methodology involves the distribution of a structured questionnaire, ensuring a representative sample and facilitating a comprehensive analysis of the gathered data.
Key findings include the nuanced perceptions of transportation infrastructure adequacy, safety and security concerns, financial influences on travel decisions, and the cultural and ecological impacts of transportation choices. These findings culminate in a comprehensive set of recommendations for policymakers and practitioners in the Nigerian tourism industry. The findings contribute to the existing literature by providing actionable insights for policymakers, stakeholders, and researchers in the Nigerian tourism sector.
The recommendations encompass gender-sensitive planning, infrastructure enhancements, safety measures, and strategic interventions to address financial constraints, ensuring a holistic and sustainable development of the tourism industry in Nigeria.
