Is there a way to amend a MySQL split brain scenario? When two servers are diverged from each other, is it possible to identify and undo the conflicting changes?
We introduce gh-mysql-rewind, which combines multiple technologies to achieve auto-resolution of data divergence. This presentation explains how gh-mysql-rewind works, and how it is being tested in production to validate its operation.
Managing and Visualizing your Replication Topologies with OrchestratorShlomi Noach
Introducing Orchestrator: a MySQL replication topology management service, that greatly simplifies DBA's tasks and enhances visibility on your topologies.
Presenting "Pseudo GTID": a competitive technology to MySQL 5.6 GTID, with less overhead and constraints, running on top of you good-old-mysql-replication topology, no upgrades or agents required.
Pseudo GTID allows easy replication topology changes as well as easy recovery from master/intermediate master/slave crash.
Pseudo GTID and Easy MySQL Replication Topology ManagementShlomi Noach
Use Pseudo GTID to refactor your MySQL replication topology even in face of master/intermediate master craches; use open source orchestrator to automate, visualize and persist your topologies
GTIDs were introduced to solve replication problems and improve database consistency in MySQL database replication.
When, accidentally, transactions occur on a replica, this introduces GTIDs on that replica that don't exist on the master. When, on a master failover, this replica becomes the new master, and the corresponding binlogs of the errant GTIDs are already purged, replication breaks on the replicas of this new master, because those missing GTIDs can't be retrieved from the binlogs of this new master.
This presentation will talk about GTIDs and how to detect errant GTIDs on a replica (before the corresponding binlogs are purged) and how to look at the corresponding transactions in the binlogs. I'll give some examples of transactions that could happen on a replica that didn't originate from a primary node, explain how this is possible and share some tips on how to avoid this.
Basic understanding of MySQL database replication is assumed.

Kernel Recipes 2018 - Live (Kernel) Patching: status quo and status futurus -...Anne Nicolas
The purpose of this talk is to provide a short overview of the current live patching facility inside the linux kernel (with a brief history excursion), describe the features it currently provides, and most importantly things that still need to be implemented / designed.
Kernel Recipes 2018 - 10 years of automated evolution in the Linux kernel - J...Anne Nicolas
The Coccinelle C-program matching and transformation tool was first released in 2008 to facilitate specification and automation in the evolution of Linux kernel code. The novel contribution of Coccinelle is to allow software developers to write code manipulation rules in terms of the code structure itself, via a generalization of the patch syntax. Over the years, Coccinelle has been extensively used in Linux kernel development, resulting in over 6000 commits to the Linux kernel, and has found its place as part of the Linux kernel development process. This talk will review the history of Coccinelle and its impact on the Linux kernel. It will also briefly present two newer tools, prequel and spinfer, that have built on the Coccinelle infrastructure.
Kernel Recipes 2018 - A year of fixing Coverity issues all over the Linux ker...Anne Nicolas
Coverity is a static analyzer that scans the kernel code and reports issues that can hide coding mistakes and vulnerabilities. Currently, it reports around 5,000 outstanding defects in the Linux kernel. I’m dedicated to fixing those defects and, this talk is a status report of the work I have been doing over the course of a year. Lessons learned, as well as the most common types of issues reported, will also be presented.
BKK16-505 Kernel and Bootloader Consolidation and UpstreamingLinaro
An update to the state of reference platform kernel and bootloader and a discussion about the patch-inclusion policy. We’ll also cover roadmap plans. Participation is invited if you have ideas on how we can make it easy to use the reference platform kernel for your development projects.
BKK16-409 VOSY Switch Port to ARMv8 Platforms and ODP IntegrationLinaro
Virtual Open Systems has developed VOSYSwitch, a high-performance user space networking virtual switch solution enabling NFV, based on the open source packet processing framework SnabbSwitch. In this talk, the experience of porting VOSYSwitch from x86 to ARMv8 will be shared, along with the integration of ODP as a driver layer for the available hardware resources. In addition to this presentation, a live demonstration will showcase chained VNFs connected through VOSYSwitch, where an OpenFastPath web server is implemented behind an ODP enabled packet filtering firewall. The targeted platforms are Freescale (NXP) LS2085A and Cavium's ThunderX.
As ODP enters its third year we are seeing increased maturity in its capabilities as well as increased adoption by application writers. This talk highlights ODP developments since SFO15 and discusses what’s ahead for ODP in 2016 as it enters production use.

Riding the Binlog: an in Deep Dissection of the Replication StreamJean-François Gagné
Binary Logs are the cornerstone of MySQL Replication, but is it fully understood ? To start apprehending this, we can think of the binary logs as a transport for a Stream of Transactions. Traveling from master to slave, sometimes via Intermediate Masters, this stream evolves: it can shrink by the application of filters, can grow by the addition of slave-local transactions, and two streams can merge by the usage of multi-source replication. After presenting the binary logs Stream Model, the different MySQL use-cases will be mapped to the model, which can serve as a validation of the model. After this validation, the model will be used to make prediction on new use-cases/features that could emerge in the future.
In this presentation, I show the audience how to implement HTTP caching best practices in a non-intrusive way in PHP Symfony 4 code base.
This presentation focuses on topics like:
- Caching using cache-control headers
- Cache variations using the Vary header
- Conditional requests using headers like ETag & If-None-Match
- ESI discovery & parsing using headers like Surrogate-Capability & Surrogate-Control
- Caching stateful content using JSON Web Token Validation in Varnish

Swift Install Workshop - OpenStack Conference Spring 2012Joe Arnold
OpenStack Swift is a highly-available distributed object storage
system which supports highly concurrent workloads. Swift is the
backbone behind Cloud Files, Rackspace's storage-as-a-service
offering.
In this workshop, which will be hosted by members of SwiftStack, Inc.,
we'll walk you through deployment and use of OpenStack Swift. We'll
begin by showing you how to install Swift from the ground up.
You'll learn:
- what you should know about Swift's architecture
- how to bootstrap a basic Swift installation
After that, we'll cover how to use Swift, including information on:
- creating accounts and users
- adding, removing, and managing data
- building applications on top of Swift
Bring your laptop (with virutalization extensions enabled in the BIOS)
and we will walk through setting up Swift in a virtual machine. We'll
also build an entire application on top of Swift to illustrate how to
use Swift as a storage service. This is a workshop you won't want to
miss!
