that run the company are Ken Sasaki (President & CEO) and Hidemi Fukuhara (Vice-President).
The person who created VIZ media was Seiji Horibuchi, originally he was from Tokushima Prefecture in Shikoku, moved to California in 1975.
After he lived in the mountains for almost two years, he moved to San Francisco, where he started a business of exporting American cultural
items to Japan, after that he became a writer of cultural information. He became interested in publishing Japanese Manga in the US but he
did not really get into anime until 1985 where he read Katsuhiro Otomo’s single-volume title Domu: A Child’s Dream. He was given the
opportunity to make his idea come to life after meeting Masahiro Ohga who gave Horibuchi $200,000 which he used in 1986 to found VIZ
Communications.
In 1987 VIZ Communications released its first titles which include things like Legend of Kamui, unfortunately the sales were mediocre due to
the specialist comic market being adverse to venturing into new territory. Horibuchi cleverly started calling manga graphic novels so they
could be carried my mainstream bookstores and it worked. The rest of the creation involved the merging of the 2 companies in 2002
because of competition in the market and so on.
