was funded by Martin Good man who use had a

book industry in 1930’s and later by the 1963
officially changed the company name to marvel.
A few years after that he retired and left the
company in his nephew’s hands Stan Lee who
also went by many other names such as “Stan
the man” and many more.
In 1993 Marvel Studios was started which is the
Movie part of Marvel who is now owned by the
huge conglomerate Disney and which has went
onto creating many super hero movies such as
Iron Man, Spider-Man, Avengers, X-Man and
many more.
What type of comic books does
Marvel produce?
Marvel is most know for publishing
the superhero genre but they also
produce comic books for a more
niche audience as some of the comic
books include more gore or more
sexual content for an older audience
so they have a large range of
content.

grossed over $14.8 billion at the
global box office, making it the
highest-grossing film franchise of
all time.
• Michael Jackson tried to buy
Marvel Comics in early 1990’s so
he could play as Spider-Man.

Lieber
• He commentated over some of his
comic books
• Some of his most well know

Who is Stan Lee?
For starters Stan Lee is an American comic
book writer who first started of as a
assistant in his uncle’s company “marvel”
and then later was given a chance to create
a story and with the artist Jack Kirby they
went onto creating the Fantastic Four as
well as Spider-Man, the X-Men, the Hulk and
Thor.
Stan Lee is often also recognised for
popularising the superhero comic genre as
the movie adaptations made it clear that
superhero's on the big screen were sought
after.
He is also very well known for his movie
cameos as he has been in all marvel owned
productions.
The Golden Age
(1938-1950) this
was the time
that there was a
clear stylistic
distinction
between good
and evil. The
golden age style
was similar to
newspapers
with cartooning
being used and
panels laid out
in simple square
grids.
Who are the main Marvel artists?
Steve Ditko: He is most known for helping in the Making of Spider-Man and his art work is one of the original one as he and Stan
both created the hero together.
Jack Kirby: He is known for helping create Hulk, Thor, Captain America, X-Men, Fantastic Four and many others. His style became the
face of Marvel in that time.
Alex Ross: He is known for painting the superhuman abilities such as x-ray, super-strength, flight and other things.
The Silver Age (1950-
1971) this was the time
after the war and the
people did not believe in
a invincible caped
avenger that would
smite all his enemies
that is why they tried to
make the comic books
appeal to more adult
sensibilities. The art
style of the silver age
included a lot of
surrealism to illustrate
the strange worlds in
which the heroes lived
as well as mixing in pop
art.
The Bronze age
was the age
were the villains
have used all of
the tricks and
now the hero’s
gained new
tougher
enemies that
resulted in the
hero’s friends
getting involved.
The art style of
this age was
more
experimental of
photorealistic.
The Dark Age (1980 –
1993) It was a time
were comic books
were more dark as
comic books like The
Killing Joke and
Watchmen came out
the line between
hero and villain were
blurry the art style
was mostly a night
one based with the
use of lighting and
long shadows was
tested.
The Ageless Age
(1993 – Present
day) this is a age
were there is no
limits to the
story and the
new technology
allows for movie
adaptation. The
art style has
changed as the
advanced
technology can
be used for 3D
modeling and
they are better
than ever.

About ViZ media
Viz media is a an American manga and anime distribution and entertainment company located in San Francisco, California. The company
was funded in 1986 as VIZ LLC but in 2005 VIZ LLC and ShoPro Entertainment merged to form the current VIZ Media LCC. The key people
that run the company are Ken Sasaki (President & CEO) and Hidemi Fukuhara (Vice-President).
The person who created VIZ media was Seiji Horibuchi, originally he was from Tokushima Prefecture in Shikoku, moved to California in 1975.
After he lived in the mountains for almost two years, he moved to San Francisco, where he started a business of exporting American cultural
items to Japan, after that he became a writer of cultural information. He became interested in publishing Japanese Manga in the US but he
did not really get into anime until 1985 where he read Katsuhiro Otomo’s single-volume title Domu: A Child’s Dream. He was given the
opportunity to make his idea come to life after meeting Masahiro Ohga who gave Horibuchi $200,000 which he used in 1986 to found VIZ
Communications.
In 1987 VIZ Communications released its first titles which include things like Legend of Kamui, unfortunately the sales were mediocre due to
the specialist comic market being adverse to venturing into new territory. Horibuchi cleverly started calling manga graphic novels so they
could be carried my mainstream bookstores and it worked. The rest of the creation involved the merging of the 2 companies in 2002
because of competition in the market and so on.
What type of products does VIZ Media
cover?
VIZ Media has a range of anime and
manga such as:
• Manga
• Anime
• Live action films
Facts about Kishimoto:
• Masashi Kishimoto’s Naruto manga
accounted for nearly 10% of all manga
sales in the US in 2006.
• During middle school , he began losing
interest in drawing , and instead
focused on sports. But , after seeing
the movie poster for Akira , he became
so inspired that he got back to
drawing.
• Ramen is his favorite food.
• When asked what he hopes readers
will take away from the series, he said
“In real life, it’s hard for people to
understand each other because of
things like differences in culture or
upbringing. As you grow up, you start
to see that sometimes things in life
don’t go right. But I created Naruto to
tell the younger generation that
although there’s hardship in life, you
can get along. Other than that, I would
rather let the audience themselves find
out what they can get from Naruto.”
Naruto creator Masashi Kishimoto :
Naruto was originally a manga which over the
years has gotten a anime adaptation and a number
of movies over all the franchise is very successful
with another series going on right now called
“Boruto: Naruto Next Generations”.
Naruto was created in late 1999-2014 by an author
named Masashi Kishimoto who was born on
November 8th 1974 so he was 25 when creating
the series that would become a worldwide hit with
over 220 million copies being sold worldwide
between 1999-2014.
Kishimoto was a manga reader since a young age
and he stated that he took inspiration from the
likes of Akira Toriyama who is the creator of Dragon
Ball and Katsuhiro Otomo who created Dōmu and a
few other manga's, as a result of that Kishimoto
spent several years working on his own Shonen
manga ( Shonen meaning “few years” these anime
normal have young protagonists who we grow with
as the series progresses).

The company was funded in 1986 as VIZ LLC but in 2005 VIZ LLC and ShoPro Entertainment merged to form the current VIZ Media LCC. The key people that run the company are Ken Sasaki (President & CEO) and Hidemi Fukuhara (Vice-President). The person who created VIZ media was Seiji Horibuchi, originally he was from Tokushima Prefecture in Shikoku, moved to California in 1975. After he lived in the mountains for almost two years, he moved to San Francisco, where he started a business of exporting American cultural items to Japan, after that he became a writer of cultural information. He became interested in publishing Japanese Manga in the US but he did not really get into anime until 1985 where he read Katsuhiro Otomo’s single-volume title Domu: A Child’s Dream. He was given the opportunity to make his idea come to life after meeting Masahiro Ohga who gave Horibuchi $200,000 which he used in 1986 to found VIZ Communications. In 1987 VIZ Communications released its first titles which include things like Legend of Kamui, unfortunately the sales were mediocre due to the specialist comic market being adverse to venturing into new territory. Horibuchi cleverly started calling manga graphic novels so they could be carried my mainstream bookstores and it worked. The rest of the creation involved the merging of the 2 companies in 2002 because of competition in the market and so on. What type of products does VIZ Media cover? VIZ Media has a range of anime and manga such as: • Manga • Anime • Live action films
