UNIT 1
SESSION 3 - SELF MOTIVATION
SELF MOTIVATION
• Our ability to get ourselves to move from thoughts to actions is self-motivation.
• It is the ability to do things on your own without being told to do so.
• It is a fire within that lights our path and drives us to do and achieve something.
• A self-motivated person feels he wants to and not he has to and thus is happily
satisfied.
• It is the name of the fire within, the inner desire, willingness and eagerness and own
enthusiasm and ambition that drives one towards success.
• Only a self-motivated person achieves the desired results as s/he has the real
motivation, the self motivation.
Types of Motivation
There is a multitude of reasons, which motivates people. The reasons could come
from within or from outside. So, motivation can be External or Internal.
External Internal
If an external factor, such as
reward, is responsible for
motivation, it is called External or
Extrinsic Motivation.
If an internal factor, such as having
peace of mind, is responsible for
motivation, it is called internal or
intrinsic motivation.
Some other factors responsible for
external motivation are: incentives,
promotion, punishment, criticism,
failure etc.
Some other factors responsible for
internal motivation are: love, joy,
belonging, fear etc.
