SELF AWARENESS
• Self-awareness means being aware of your personality, including your strengths,
weaknesses, interests, abilities, attitudes, biases and motivations.
• Self-awareness allows you to understand other people – how they perceive your
attitude and responses.
• It is important to be self – aware because it influences our personal development.Thus,
self – awareness is an essential factor in achieving success and becoming independent.
• Self-aware people consciously practice personal discovery and keenly analyze their
action and reactions.
Self-aware ask themselves:
• Do I have the required skill set or do I need any external help to develop this skill
set?
• Do I have excellent listening skills?
• Do I take the feedback and suggestions constructively?
• If an emotion is troubling me, then what is the real reason and feeling behind it ? How
can I handle it?
• Am I self-motivated enough to complete this task as per schedule or deadlines or do
I need any external help to keep me motivated?
ABILITIES OF SELF AWARE PERSON
Self –aware people develop mindfulness abilities and keenly observe how they can improve their
personality to grow into a mature individual and a better leader to accomplish the intended objectives –
both personal and professional. Some more abilities are:
• Know self emotional triggers
• Open minded
• Self disciplined
• Mindfulness - It is a type of meditation that involves being aware of what you’re feeling and sensing in
the present moment.
• Know own strength/weaknesses
• Know and set boundaries
• Decision making
• Focused
HOW TO BE SELF-AWARE
Becoming self-aware requires one to be fair and unbiased while observing oneself.
One become self-aware by practicing the following:
• By knowing one’ s strengths and weaknesses
• By knowing one’s values
• By knowing one’s goals, challenges and opportunities
KNOWING ONE’S STRENGTHS AND
WEAKNESSES
• What is one of my strengths/weakness?
• How do I know?
• What projects/tasks have I excelled in? What characteristics/traits have helped me
do them?
• What have others complimented me about? Are those some of my strengths?
• In what areas, have I needed help? Are those some of my weakness?
• What projects/tasks give me, or drain my energy? Does the type of activity help
inform me about my strengths or weaknesses?
• What type of things/activities I enjoy or dislike or struggle into?

KNOWING GOALS, CHALLENGES AND
OPPORTUNITIES
• Self-awareness also involves knowing about the things and situations where you put
your energy. These include goal, challenges and opportunities.
• Goals are important for anyone’s life. Goals should be set such that they can drive our
life to a better perspective and enriched feeling.
• While setting your goals, you must consider your strengths/weaknesses,
interests/capabilities and values.
• As it becomes difficult to achieve goals which not as per your strengths, interests and
values.
• Once you set your goals, you can then analyse the challenges and opportunities in
achieving the goals.
CHALLENGES
• It refer to the difficulties, problems and obstacles in achieving the goal and which
require great effort and determination to overcome them.
• Once you know your goals clearly, you will start finding the challenges in achieving
goals.
• When you know your challenges, you start working on the strategy and solutions to
face and counter them.
OPPORTUNITIES
• It refer to appropriate and favourable times and situations to counter your challenges
and achieve your goals.
• To grab the opportunities, you should be alert, with clear vision, persistent and ever
ready to take the required action.
