Concept of Self Management
The demonstration of self-control besides prioritizing goals and deciding
one’s next course of actions and even taking responsibility for them is what
managing one’s own self is about. In other words, it is a combination of
acting with mindfulness and being able to successfully manage one’s
priorities and time. Comprehensively, it can be divided into four segments:
mental, physical, social, and spiritual. Some of the most common strategies
which can be suggested here include monitoring situations and developing
strategies to improve them, observing one’s surrounding and even evaluating
the risks in all our decisions, aggravating our actions, words, and thoughts
with more factual information, taking up new challenges instead of looking
back on our failures, focusing on the effort we put into everything we do
rather than the end result, and lastly, always having our thoughts and words
soaked in positivity.
Importance of Setting Goals
Goal setting is a very powerful tool useful for having motivation and
purpose in life. Goals have been defined as “the object or aim of an
action, for example, to attain a specific standard of proficiency, usually
within a specified time limit.” The aforementioned may even be
described as the competency level one wishes to achieve besides
creating a lens which can help us to review the present performance of
our own selves. The variation in the competency levels of people in the
performance of tasks stems from the fact that no two persons have the
same knowledge and ability. Besides, it even depends on the amount of
motivation every individual may possess. Goals have a positive impact
on organizational commitment and motivation of employees.
Advantages of Goal-Setting
The basic quality one would find in any achiever is a very strong sense of
purpose within. This motivation towards the achievement of set targets is
useful in:
• Specifying what has to be achieved-meaningful goals are clearly defined
• Measuring the progress-close monitoring of how close one is to achieving
them
• Attainability-goals should definitely be challenging but realistic too
• Relevancy level-evaluation of its importance and its impact on future plans
• Time limit setting-fixing deadlines and adhering to them
Concept of Self-Reflection
The capacity of humans to exercise introspection besides making an
effort to increase one’s consciousness about the fundamental essence
and nature of humans. The aforementioned practice can be compared
with the act of looking into the mirror and describing what one sees in
oneself. It is a method most commonly used for self-assessment-how
one works and lives this life. In other words, it is all about productively
using one’s thought processes. This aids in the development of one’s
skills besides the assessment of their effectiveness. Those who reflect
on themselves in a positive manner are actually seeking reasons for
their existing beliefs about their life and the way they have chosen to
live it. The assessment of one’s own skills regularly helps in the
identification of changes one would need to make.
Types of Self Reflectors
Self-awareness is internal as well as external. People who self reflect can be divided into four
groups:
1. Introspectors: Low external and high internal self-awareness-though they have clarity about
their own identity, such people never raise questions on their beliefs go deeper into what they
remain unable to understand or accept with the help of feedback from other people. This can
be a hindrance in their path to success and besides negatively impacting their relationships
2. Aware: High external and high internal self-awareness-such individuals believe in themselves
besides having their sight set firmly on what they want to achieve. They seek the advice of
those who have importance in their lives and try to follow it as much as they can. This is the
quality which is mostly found in leaders
3. Seekers: Low internal self-awareness and low internal self-awareness-people who fall into this
category are clueless and about their identity and ideologies besides the way others perceive
them. Consequently, a sense of frustration or stagnation is bound to arise within them
4. Pleasers: Low internal self-awareness and high external self-awareness-some people are so
conscious about their social image that it overshadows their individuality. This often results in
them making choices which neither fulfills them emotionally nor helps them to carve out their
path to success
Action Plan for Self Management
1. One must have a goal in mind-this is the very first step towards its
achievement
2. Chalk out a plan-think about the method one would follow in
working towards it
3. Implementation-begin by working on it step-by-step
4. Stick to the pre-decided process-do not make many changes in the
procedure which has to be followed
5. Reach the goal-this is the ultimate aim of this process
Building on Knowledge and Skills
Knowledge is theory and skills are practical. The former is gained through
information which is practical and theoretical. It includes any skill or facts which are
acquired either through learning or by experience. A skill may be defined as an
ability to excel at a task or in any particular field. One can gain mastery in any field
over a period of time. An ability may be described as a skill or talent in any
particular area of work. It can be developed or improved over any period.
Knowledge does not necessarily give us any skill or ability
Skill development involves both knowledge and ability
An ability is any skill or talent in a particular field and which
can be improved over time
Finding Solutions to Problems
There are five key skills required for solving any problem. These
Include:
1. Analytical ability-knowledge about the methods involved in
gathering and articulating data before analyzing and
visualizing it besides visualizing information, solving complex
problems, and decision-making
2. Lateral thinking-this is about going beyond what is obvious
and bringing out unexpected perspectives from sources
which are much deeper within one’s imagination and
inspiration
3. Logical Reasoning-raising pointed questions and then
gathering and assessing relevant information before arriving
conclusions which are well-reasoned and with an open
mindset before communicating them effectively to arrive at
solutions which are most suitable
4. Initiative-solving problems by always trying to take the lead
of passing them on to others. This even involves taking
pre-emptive steps for problems which are anticipated
5. Persistence-perseverance holds a lot of importance to not only
come up with solutions but for their implementation too
Concept of Self-Discovery
Our personal journey in life is all about the constant effort to bring out
that person which resides deep within us. While treading on this path,
one may review and reflect upon a wide variety of aspects including
values and passions, natural talents and abilities, and capabilities and
inspirations. What we discover in this process may be useful in other
walks of life too. Self-discovery increases our level of acceptance for
ourselves and consequently we start giving less importance to the
opinions of other people. This process has proven to have positive
impacts on one’s mental as well as physical well-being. The higher the
level of understanding of oneself the healthier one remains in life.
Useful Methods of Self Discovery
The journey of self discovery is all about finding out what we want from our lives. Some simple techniques for the aforementioned
may include:
1. Seeking answers to what one wants from life and also where a person perceives one’s own self a few years ahead in life
2. Exploring passions on a daily basis. They make life seem rich and gives a meaning to it
3. Trying out things one may have never done before like pursuing any form of art as a hobby
4. Evaluating our own forte and sharpening the skills required for pursuing it either as a profession or hobby
5. Identifying what one values most in oneself may generally include honesty, compassion, loyalty, creativity, courage, and
intelligence
6. Asking one’s own self questions like the reasons for doing the things one does, what are the driving factors, what one misses
out in life, and the impact of one’s choices on the life one has desired
7. Learning is a process which can continue throughout one’s life. And so, if a person has always desired to pursue something in
particular, ensure that some time is kept aside for it
8. Journaling is helpful in keeping a track of the repetitive patterns in one’s life. Self-discovery is even about patterns which are
not helpful and either repairing them if it is possible or completely removing them from one’s life
9. Talking to mental health therapists and taking their professional support and guidance is beneficial in sorting out many issues
like identity, career changes, and goals clarification
Digital Self Management
Digital Skills Improvement
In today’s digital age, it is important that our future generation learns to be
virtually safe and secure. Online community life should be led in a way which
is safe and respectful. And so, one must:
1. Behave lawfully – stay away from becoming involved in stealing, illegal
download, hack, or damage the identity, property, or work of others
2. Protect privacy – one must neither invade the privacy of others nor let
other people into one’s digital space due to any carelessness
3. Recognition of responsibilities and rights – it is important to understand
the boundaries of freedom and even the duties of responsible digital
citizens
4. Impact assessment – it is important to understand the consequences of
one’s online activities not only for our own self or our close
acquaintances besides the whole online community
Self management education plans help youngsters to not only
complete tasks independently but even encourage them to actively
participate in monitoring and even reinforcing their own behavioral
patterns. The main aim of this education is to encourage independence
and self-reliance. Research indicates that self management strategies
are important for children in their journey towards adulthood. The
efficiency of lesson plans needs to be monitored very closely. While
designing the aforementioned, educators must bear in mind that
students undergo a lot of physical, and probably even mental stress in
order to replace their problematic behavioral patterns. So children
must receive positive reinforcement for their good conduct on a regular
basis.

Steps Involved in Self Management Lesson
Planning
• Conduct functional assessments for identifying the root cause of the
negative behavioural patterns
• Encourage students to list down possible reinforcing tools or guides which
can be useful in the creation of the lesson plans
• Develop recording forms which have simple designs besides being easy to
fill up
• Conduct training sessions with students to increase their understanding of
not only the method of using the recording forms but even the
implementation of the lesson plans
• Ensure that students comprehend the lesson plans besides checking the
accuracy of the recording of students
• Review the process regularly and celebrate the success!

Concept of Self Management The demonstration of self-control besides prioritizing goals and deciding one’s next course of actions and even taking responsibility for them is what managing one’s own self is about. In other words, it is a combination of acting with mindfulness and being able to successfully manage one’s priorities and time. Comprehensively, it can be divided into four segments: mental, physical, social, and spiritual. Some of the most common strategies which can be suggested here include monitoring situations and developing strategies to improve them, observing one’s surrounding and even evaluating the risks in all our decisions, aggravating our actions, words, and thoughts with more factual information, taking up new challenges instead of looking back on our failures, focusing on the effort we put into everything we do rather than the end result, and lastly, always having our thoughts and words soaked in positivity.

  • 4. Importance of Setting Goals Goal setting is a very powerful tool useful for having motivation and purpose in life. Goals have been defined as “the object or aim of an action, for example, to attain a specific standard of proficiency, usually within a specified time limit.” The aforementioned may even be described as the competency level one wishes to achieve besides creating a lens which can help us to review the present performance of our own selves. The variation in the competency levels of people in the performance of tasks stems from the fact that no two persons have the same knowledge and ability. Besides, it even depends on the amount of motivation every individual may possess. Goals have a positive impact on organizational commitment and motivation of employees.
  • 5. Advantages of Goal-Setting The basic quality one would find in any achiever is a very strong sense of purpose within. This motivation towards the achievement of set targets is useful in: • Specifying what has to be achieved-meaningful goals are clearly defined • Measuring the progress-close monitoring of how close one is to achieving them • Attainability-goals should definitely be challenging but realistic too • Relevancy level-evaluation of its importance and its impact on future plans • Time limit setting-fixing deadlines and adhering to them
  • 6. Concept of Self-Reflection The capacity of humans to exercise introspection besides making an effort to increase one’s consciousness about the fundamental essence and nature of humans. The aforementioned practice can be compared with the act of looking into the mirror and describing what one sees in oneself. It is a method most commonly used for self-assessment-how one works and lives this life. In other words, it is all about productively using one’s thought processes. This aids in the development of one’s skills besides the assessment of their effectiveness. Those who reflect on themselves in a positive manner are actually seeking reasons for their existing beliefs about their life and the way they have chosen to live it. The assessment of one’s own skills regularly helps in the identification of changes one would need to make.
  • 7. Types of Self Reflectors Self-awareness is internal as well as external. People who self reflect can be divided into four groups: 1. Introspectors: Low external and high internal self-awareness-though they have clarity about their own identity, such people never raise questions on their beliefs go deeper into what they remain unable to understand or accept with the help of feedback from other people. This can be a hindrance in their path to success and besides negatively impacting their relationships 2. Aware: High external and high internal self-awareness-such individuals believe in themselves besides having their sight set firmly on what they want to achieve. They seek the advice of those who have importance in their lives and try to follow it as much as they can. This is the quality which is mostly found in leaders 3. Seekers: Low internal self-awareness and low internal self-awareness-people who fall into this category are clueless and about their identity and ideologies besides the way others perceive them. Consequently, a sense of frustration or stagnation is bound to arise within them 4. Pleasers: Low internal self-awareness and high external self-awareness-some people are so conscious about their social image that it overshadows their individuality. This often results in them making choices which neither fulfills them emotionally nor helps them to carve out their path to success

  • 9. Action Plan for Self Management 1. One must have a goal in mind-this is the very first step towards its achievement 2. Chalk out a plan-think about the method one would follow in working towards it 3. Implementation-begin by working on it step-by-step 4. Stick to the pre-decided process-do not make many changes in the procedure which has to be followed 5. Reach the goal-this is the ultimate aim of this process

  • 11. Building on Knowledge and Skills Knowledge is theory and skills are practical. The former is gained through information which is practical and theoretical. It includes any skill or facts which are acquired either through learning or by experience. A skill may be defined as an ability to excel at a task or in any particular field. One can gain mastery in any field over a period of time. An ability may be described as a skill or talent in any particular area of work. It can be developed or improved over any period. Knowledge does not necessarily give us any skill or ability Skill development involves both knowledge and ability An ability is any skill or talent in a particular field and which can be improved over time
  • 12. Finding Solutions to Problems There are five key skills required for solving any problem. These Include: 1. Analytical ability-knowledge about the methods involved in gathering and articulating data before analyzing and visualizing it besides visualizing information, solving complex problems, and decision-making 2. Lateral thinking-this is about going beyond what is obvious and bringing out unexpected perspectives from sources which are much deeper within one’s imagination and inspiration 3. Logical Reasoning-raising pointed questions and then gathering and assessing relevant information before arriving conclusions which are well-reasoned and with an open mindset before communicating them effectively to arrive at solutions which are most suitable 4. Initiative-solving problems by always trying to take the lead of passing them on to others. This even involves taking pre-emptive steps for problems which are anticipated 5. Persistence-perseverance holds a lot of importance to not only come up with solutions but for their implementation too

  • 14. Concept of Self-Discovery Our personal journey in life is all about the constant effort to bring out that person which resides deep within us. While treading on this path, one may review and reflect upon a wide variety of aspects including values and passions, natural talents and abilities, and capabilities and inspirations. What we discover in this process may be useful in other walks of life too. Self-discovery increases our level of acceptance for ourselves and consequently we start giving less importance to the opinions of other people. This process has proven to have positive impacts on one’s mental as well as physical well-being. The higher the level of understanding of oneself the healthier one remains in life.
  • 15. Useful Methods of Self Discovery The journey of self discovery is all about finding out what we want from our lives. Some simple techniques for the aforementioned may include: 1. Seeking answers to what one wants from life and also where a person perceives one’s own self a few years ahead in life 2. Exploring passions on a daily basis. They make life seem rich and gives a meaning to it 3. Trying out things one may have never done before like pursuing any form of art as a hobby 4. Evaluating our own forte and sharpening the skills required for pursuing it either as a profession or hobby 5. Identifying what one values most in oneself may generally include honesty, compassion, loyalty, creativity, courage, and intelligence 6. Asking one’s own self questions like the reasons for doing the things one does, what are the driving factors, what one misses out in life, and the impact of one’s choices on the life one has desired 7. Learning is a process which can continue throughout one’s life. And so, if a person has always desired to pursue something in particular, ensure that some time is kept aside for it 8. Journaling is helpful in keeping a track of the repetitive patterns in one’s life. Self-discovery is even about patterns which are not helpful and either repairing them if it is possible or completely removing them from one’s life 9. Talking to mental health therapists and taking their professional support and guidance is beneficial in sorting out many issues like identity, career changes, and goals clarification
  • 17. Digital Skills Improvement In today’s digital age, it is important that our future generation learns to be virtually safe and secure. Online community life should be led in a way which is safe and respectful. And so, one must: 1. Behave lawfully – stay away from becoming involved in stealing, illegal download, hack, or damage the identity, property, or work of others 2. Protect privacy – one must neither invade the privacy of others nor let other people into one’s digital space due to any carelessness 3. Recognition of responsibilities and rights – it is important to understand the boundaries of freedom and even the duties of responsible digital citizens 4. Impact assessment – it is important to understand the consequences of one’s online activities not only for our own self or our close acquaintances besides the whole online community

Self management education plans help youngsters to not only complete tasks independently but even encourage them to actively participate in monitoring and even reinforcing their own behavioral patterns. The main aim of this education is to encourage independence and self-reliance. Research indicates that self management strategies are important for children in their journey towards adulthood. The efficiency of lesson plans needs to be monitored very closely. While designing the aforementioned, educators must bear in mind that students undergo a lot of physical, and probably even mental stress in order to replace their problematic behavioral patterns. So children must receive positive reinforcement for their good conduct on a regular basis. Importance of Self Management Education Planning

Steps Involved in Self Management Lesson Planning • Conduct functional assessments for identifying the root cause of the negative behavioural patterns • Encourage students to list down possible reinforcing tools or guides which can be useful in the creation of the lesson plans • Develop recording forms which have simple designs besides being easy to fill up • Conduct training sessions with students to increase their understanding of not only the method of using the recording forms but even the implementation of the lesson plans • Ensure that students comprehend the lesson plans besides checking the accuracy of the recording of students • Review the process regularly and celebrate the success!
