The basic goal during a round of golf is to take
as few strokes as possible over the course of 18
holes. However, players do not simply add up
the total number of strokes they have
recorded, but instead maintain their score
using golf’s par system.
3. Under the par scoring system, a skilled
golfer playing a hole that has been labeled
a par three, for example, is expected to
place the ball in the hole in three strokes.
Any additional strokes over three will be
marked on the score card as +1 or +2 over
par, while making the hole in less than three
strokes would result in a -1 or -2 under par.
At the conclusion of 18 holes players add
up their stroke differentials to obtain a final
score. If an individual completes each hole
exactly on par, he or she would finish with a
score of zero.
