UN human rights experts called on the Dominican Republic to prevent arbitrary deportations and racial profiling of people of Haitian descent. They expressed concern over the deportation of 19,000 people to Haiti due to fear of violations when deportations officially start in August. The experts said that migrants have a right to protection and Dominicans of Haitian descent have a right to reside in the country. They urged the Dominican Republic to address discrimination and social exclusion faced by Haitian migrants through effective legislation.
