This is Victoria Primary School
in Uganda, Africa.
Many children in
Uganda cannot
afford to go to
school.
School helps the children to have
better lives.
Our class wants to help the children learn.
The school started under a
tree in 1999.
Now they have a school
building with
600 students.
The school needs more
desks and our class
wants to help again by
raising the money to
buy them.
The old desks got eaten by ants.
The wooden desks are built
by a local carpenter.
Two years ago we raised money to
buy new desks and school signs.
The school was very happy with
their new desks and they sent us
pictures of the new signs.
One sign at the school and four
at each of the crossroads
leading up to the school.
Some of the children have
to sit on the cement floor.
Canadian volunteers help at the
school.
They wear a uniform to school.
All around the school is farm land.
The children
have to help
carry water
to their
school.
The students collect water
from the local water hole.
It’s hard work carrying all that
water up to the school.
Many hands make the job
easier.
The children stack the water outside
the cook house.
They also collect rain water.
Sarah the cook makes a stew for
600 students every day.
She used to have to cook over an
open fire and it was very smoky and
bad for her health.
Since out previous fundraiser
others have raised funds for a new
kitchen.
Installing the new cooking
area.
Canadians send money for this
school.
This is the grade 7 class.
There are 87 students in grade 2.
Many students share one desk.
Teachers glue posters to the walls.
The Westshore Rotary club in Victoria raised money for
textbooks for the children. When we were there in February,
each teacher had just been given one set for each class. You can
imagine the excitement of the children as they each got their
own textbooks and the delight of the teachers at how much
easier it is going to be teach a concept.
Opening the shipment of textbooks.
They love to play soccer.
Some of the 2012 grade 7 Grads
Graduation Cake for about 75
people!
The school still needs
more desks.
Please help our class to
raise money to help this
school.
