Containerisation is a new player in the embedded world. Provisionning and rapid deployment doesn’t really make sense for embedded devices, but the extra security that container partitionning brings to the table is quickly becoming a “must have” for every embedded device.
However, the embedded world has its own constraints. Generic distributions like debian or Fedora are rarely used and tools like dockers can’t build software with custom build-chains the way Yocto or buildroot does it.
This talk will quickly review what are linux containers, why they are usefull in the embedde world, and then will study ways to generate container images using the yocto infrastructure and integrate them in another yocto image without breaking the package-based update system that Yocto provides.

In GNOME, accessibility is a core value that touches all aspects of the system. [1]
From the infrastructure, to the graphical toolkit, to the applications, to the assistive technologies, accessibility has been a central consideration from the very early days.
On April 2011 GNOME 3.0 was released, and although GNOME and the accessibility made a huge effort, the accessibility support was not ideal. But not are bad news. Finally the accessibility technologies are starting to be used from the two main free desktops. AT-SPI is starting to be used on KDE distros, and Orca is starting to be functional with Qt apps. Since GNOME 3.0 a big effort was done in order to improve the situation. At the moment of this proposal writing an ATK/AT-SPI2 hackfest is being organized, in order to fix the issues from the framework itself.
The purpose of this presentation is explaining:
* Introduce accessibility on GNOME.
* Briefly explain the status towards GNOME 3.4
* Summarize the output of the ATK/AT-SPI2 hackfest
* Compare GNOME 3.0 vs GNOME 3.4
* KDE status and cooperation
* Future

GNOME 3.0 Accessibility: State of the Union (Desktop Summit 2011)

In GNOME, accessibility is a core value that touches all aspects of the system.
From the infrastructure, to the graphical toolkit, to the applications, to the assistive technologies, accessibility has been a central consideration from the very early days. As a result, GNOME 2.0 not only has compelling accessibility today, but it also provides a rich and stable base for future accessibility work.
This year (2011) was released GNOME 3.0, the first major release of GNOME since GNOME 2.0 on 2002.
As a major relase GNOME 3.0 involves several changes on the technology layers of GNOME affecting the accessibility support in several aspects. Some examples: bonobo deprecation, new desktop (GNOME Shell) using a new technology (Clutter), etc.
Since the annoucement of GNOME 3.0 and those technologies changes the accessibility community was working in order to get the best support on this major release, including two accessibility hackfests during 2010.
In general, the purpose of this presentation is:
Introduce accessibility on GNOME.
Briefly explain the technologies changes between GNOME 2.0 and GNOME 3.0

Bridging openSUSE and SLE gap: the GNOME example
Starting with (upcoming) Leap 42.2 and SLE 12 SP2, a lot of cooperation has been done to bridge gaps between the two distributions.
We'll talk of one specific example, GNOME desktop, where openSUSE and SLE teams worked together on improving our common work and how it helped both teams.
This is still a work in progress at the time of this writing, we'll be sharing what we achieved, how we did it, what failed (if it did) and how we can improve.
Linux and its fundamentals

GNOME 3.0 presentation at Software Freedom Day 2010 Baguio
GNOME 3.0 is a major new release of the GNOME desktop environment scheduled for March 2011. It focuses on improving the overall user experience, accessibility, and social features of applications. GNOME started in 1997 as the GNU Network Object Model Environment and is now one of the most successful open-source projects, with a huge user base. The presentation demonstrates mockups of GNOME 3.0's new interface and concludes with a live demo.
Top Lightweight Linux Distros
Lubuntu, Xubuntu, CrunchBang, Peppermint, and Puppy Linux are some of the top lightweight Linux distributions that can run well on older computers with low system requirements. A lightweight distro uses few system resources and focuses on speed and efficiency. Lubuntu and Xubuntu use the LXDE and Xfce desktop environments respectively, keeping their requirements low. CrunchBang offers a modern Debian system without sacrificing performance using the Openbox window manager. Peppermint is based on Lubuntu but is cloud-centric, while Puppy Linux can run entirely from RAM.

Linux distro and its features by adam

Ubuntu 17.10 • Ubuntu 17.10, which has the codename ‘Artful Aardvark’, opened for development earlier this week. • This cycle promises to be a very large one for Ubuntu developers and Canonical engineers, and important ahead of the next LTS next year. • Ubuntu 17.10, codename Artful Aardvark, be the first version of Ubuntu since 2011 to not ship with the Unity desktop by default. Instead, Ubuntu 17.10 will use GNOME as the default desktop environment
- 5. What to Expect from Ubuntu 17.10 • First things first: this early in development do not expect to see an awful lot of difference between Ubuntu 17.04 and 17.10 — but that will change over the coming months. • Ubuntu 17.10 will use GNOME Shell as the default desktop environment. Unity 7 will be available in the main repository but will not ship on the disk image as an optional session. This will mark the first time in over six years that Ubuntu has offered a GNOME session by default. • Upstart, Unity 8, and various misc Ubuntu touch packages are likely to be removed from the archives in the coming weeks.
- 6. • Ubuntu 17.10 will offer a Wayland session alongside a traditional Xorg one. • A decision is yet to be taken on whether to Artful will use LightDM as the display manager (possibly with a new greeter front end) or switch fully to GDM, used by upstream GNOME. The latter lacks a few much-loved features of the former, like remote desktop access and guest accounts. • Likewise, no formal decision has been made on whether Ubuntu 17.10 will ship with GNOME 3.26, due for release in September of this year, or not. With this version of GNOME promising to deliver some important improvements (like non- integer HiDPI scaling, a modern sharing framework, etc) here’s hoping it’s included. • With plenty of work required to plump the GNOME stack into Unity, debate whether to keep patched versions of certain apps so that they play nice with Unity, and so on. • Ubuntu devs are tentatively targeting Ubuntu 17.10 Alpha 2 as the milestone by which they expect the majority of the Unity to GNOME switch to have taken place.

Download Ubuntu 17.10 Builds • You can download the latest Ubuntu 17.10 daily build from the official Ubuntu image server. http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/pending/ • Please keep in mind that Ubuntu daily builds are spun for testing purposes and should not be installed by anyone looking for a stable desktop experience. This warning applies double for daily builds produced this early in the development cycle.
