Philip H. Drash has experience in B2B and B2C marketing across several industries including insurance, credit/banking, data solutions, telecommunications, and consumer goods. He has expertise in strategic planning, marketing communications, customer relationship management, lead generation, strategic alliances, brand management, and business case development. His value proposition is to deliver tangible results quickly through customer-centric approaches, lead diverse teams collaboratively, bring innovation to change management, and foster a passionate work environment through mentoring and coaching.
This is a presentation I use to using get people to be aware of the potential of the semantic web. It has a section on how to promote semantic web standards. I do some strategic analysis of the Semantic Web stack today and apply concepts from technology marketing, economics and technology adoption.

This PLDN presentation (in Dutch) gives an introduction on the main concepts of Linked Data and of the activities of the open network community Platform Linked Data Netherlands (PLDN). This presentation was used during the Jaarcongres ECP on November 14th at the Fokker Terminal in The Hague at the PLDN information booth.

Searching the internet - what patent searchers should knowEric Sieverts
1. Google search results are unreliable and inconsistent as numbers are not stable, results are irreproducible, and Google is constantly changing its interface and removing functions.
2. To search for publication dates more reliably, the text and metadata of pages must be checked as Google date limitations are not always accurate. The Wayback Machine can help find previous versions of pages.
3. Beyond Google, other search engines like Bing, Yahoo, and Exalead have more advanced search functions and together account for 30% of the market share in the US. Material-specific search engines also exist for blogs, videos, images, science, and news.
Searching the internet - better with Google / Google not always bestEric Sieverts
Here are some key points about searching images:
- You can search by keywords on sites like Google Images, Yahoo Images, Bing Images, Flickr
- Flickr also allows filtering by Creative Commons licensed images
- Specialized sites include photograph archives and Wikimedia Commons
- Geographical search on sites like Panoramio and Instagram
- Content-based image retrieval allows searching by color, drawing an example, or uploading an existing image for sites like Google, Tineye, and Retrievr
- Tineye specifically finds almost exact copies which can help identify copyright issues
- CBIR techniques are becoming more advanced but keywords are still the most common search method
Searching the internet - what patent searchers should knowEric Sieverts
The document provides an overview of strategies for effective patent searching on the internet. It discusses searching the general web versus specific material types and how Google's search landscape is ever-changing. Key tips include using verbatim searching, checking dates and reliability of sources, and exploring search options beyond Google like other search engines and social media/forum tools for specialized searching. Beyond general web searches, focusing searches on specific material types and using the right tools can help find relevant patent information.
1. The document discusses whether Google will remain synonymous with search and find as new search paradigms emerge on the web, with some experts arguing search is becoming more specialized and contextual.
2. It notes people increasingly expect answer machines or decision machines rather than just search engines, and references predictions that there will be over 140,000 specialized apps to fulfill different search tasks.
3. The future of search is uncertain as it has become a multi-billion dollar industry, and technologies like the semantic web may allow search engines and the internet to better understand the meaning of information.
A pair of shoes in the thesaurus; some reflexions on human and computer indexingEric Sieverts
The document discusses how knowledge organization systems like thesauri and ontologies are used for indexing and searching in digital libraries and the semantic web. It provides examples of how concepts and relations from a thesaurus or ontology can be represented in RDF to enable semantic searching across linked data sources.
Project Panorama: vistas on validated informationEric Sieverts
The document discusses the Project Panorama which aims to address problems with finding trusted and validated information online. It seeks to create a search system that indexes validated information from libraries and makes it easily accessible to the public for free. It conducted interviews and found that people want a simple one-stop search that can both search various resources and provide full-text access or pointers to full content when needed. It considers using an integrated search engine or federated search and how best to provide access to licensed materials.
