Type 3 (past conditional):


  If you had stayed in your
country instead of coming to
the U.S., how would your life
     have been different?
If I (past perfect), I modal + (not) +
        have + past participle.
If I had stayed in my country, I
 would have had a lot of kids.
If I had stayed in my country, I
would not have learned to drive a
               car.
If I had stayed in Colombia instead
 of coming to the U.S., I would not
        have learned English.
If I had stayed in in my country
instead of coming to the U.S., I
would not have gone to college.
If I had stayed in in my country
 instead of coming to the U.S., I
wouldn’t have made new friends
      from all over the world.
If I had stayed in in my country, I
    would have been a farmer.
If I had stayed in in my country, I
wouldn’t have had the opportunity
  to become more independent.
