environment degradation, climate change
and the associated dilemma of

Established in 1982 as an autonomous
institution under the Ministry of Environment,
Forest and Climate Change, Government of
India, IIFM was conceptualized in response to
the recommendations of the National
Commission on Agriculture. The impetus
generated by these recommendations
culminated in an alliance with the Indian
Institute of Management, Ahmedabad through
which the philosophy and raison d’erte of IIFM
was evolved. The Swedish International
Development Agency also contributed
financially and technically in establishing the
Institute. Since its inception, IIFM has been
home to some of the most brilliant young
minds who are constantly raising the bar of
excellence in this dynamic field.
Situated in the City of Lakes, the Indian
Institute of Forest Management, Bhopal is
uniquely positioned in South Asia in its
endeavor to blend the concepts of
environment and development management
with corporate management expertise.

WHY The students, the faculty, the courses, the field

Training
The dynamic nature of society and economy makes it
imperative for managers and administrators to
continuously up-grade their managerial skills to meet
new challenges, conflicts and changes in roles. The
Institute with an objective to fulfill the growing need
of managerial human power and development of
managerial capacity in the Environment, Forestry and
allied sectors provides an excellent forum to serve the

Research
Research is one of the key activities of the Institute.
As a sectoral management Institute in Development,
Environment, Forestryand allied sectors, the institute
mainly focuses applied research in Natural Resource
Management.
The research projects are funded by various National
and International organizations like the Ministry of
Environment, Forest&Climate Change, Department of
Science & Technology, Ministry of Textiles, Govt. of
India, State Forest Departments, ITTO, FAO, IDRC,
DFID, Ford Foundation, Ministry of Rural Development,

Consultancy
The multi-disciplinaryexpertise of IIFM’s faculty
makes IIFM ideally suited to offer consultancy
services in the areas of Forestry, Environment and
Natural Resource Management. The subject areas in
which IIFM has been providing Consultancy support
include Agro-forestry, Farm forestry, GEO-Informatics,
Livelihood and Conservation, Grassland Management,
Rural and Green Marketing, Micro Credit, Joint Forest

The Institute has a sprawling campus spread over 230 acres located on a lush green hill-top surrounded by
water-bodies on three sides. The building-complex includes the Academic-Complex, Library, Computer Center,
Hostel,FullyAirconditioned Student Mess,Administration andAccountswings.TheAcademicComplexofIIFM
includes Fully air-conditioned hi-tech class-rooms, seminar rooms equipped with video conferencing facilities
and a Faculty Block. The award winning architectural design of IIFM’s building provides an environment
conducivetoacademicactivities,professionaldeliberationsandsocialinteraction.

Hostel,GuestHouse&Mess
Three hostel blocks having one hundred and ten fully
furnished rooms are available for accommodating
boys and girls separately. The hostel rooms are
connected with internet facility through LAN and Wi-
Fi. The fully air-conditioned student mess is equipped
with automated and semi-automated equipment and
cooking systems. It is capable of serving about 300
peopleatatimewithnutritiousandwholesomefood.
SportsFacilities
A wide range of sports facilities are available on
campus including Badminton, Lawn Tennis, Table
Tennis, Football, Cricket, Basketball, Volleyball,
Carrom, Chess and Gym. Intra-Institute sports
tournaments are organized regularly and the Institute
participates every year in the All India Forest Sports
and Games Meet organized by MoEF & CC, GoI. Here at
IIFM, every goal scored is applauded and every point
woncallsforacelebration.
ComputerCenter
Computer center has excellent Hardware and
Software resources, which are capable of providing
support for diverse computing requirements. Major
facilities at the Computer Center are: Operating
System, Office Automation software (Windows 10 &
MS-Office 2016), Open Source GIS, Statistical
analysis tool SPSS & R. Language lab facility provides
opportunity to learn new languages by enrolling in the
open source MOOC platforms. The center has HP
ProLiant ML 350 G8 and G5 servers for managing Tally
9.0, ERP, Anti-Virus, Internet & Intranet services. The
center also provides Video-conferencing and Skype
facilities using dedicated systems. The computer
center has a well-established computer lab with 60
computers for student’s access. Internet facility is
provided through dedicated NKN Leased line of 100
Mbps & BSNL Leased line with 10 Mbps. The campus
isWi-Fienabled.
LibraryandInformationServices
The library is an ocean of knowledge and information
with a vast collection of books and journals on
subjects of environment, development, forestry and
beyond. This multistoried air-conditioned building
offers a vast pool of literature to students.
Subscription to a number of international e-journals is
a key ingredient of the IIFM library. Institutional
membership with DELNET as well as continuous
updating of resource base and inclusion of
publications of current interest is constantly
undertaken. A collection of films on forestry,
environment, development, livelihood and
management are available, the Online Public Access
Catalogue (OPAC) facility is available on all terminals
connected through LAN. The library has total
collection of 42180 volumes and subscription to
more than 186 National and International periodicals,
a number of CDs and DVDs on various topics of
academic interests and subscription to a number of
international online databases such as Science Direct
(Business Management & Accounting Collection and
Environmental Science collection), EBSCO ( Business
Source Elite and Environment Complete), Prowess, J-
gate (Management Sciences), Indiastat and Emerald
Marketing:e-journalcollection.

Admission to the fully residential two year
PGDSM is open to graduates from any
discipline provided he/she fulfils the
eligibility criteria and qualifies through the
selectionprocess.
Eligibility
A candidate must hold a bachelor’s degree
in any discipline with at least 50% marks
or equivalent CGPA (45% in case of
candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste
(SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST) and Differently
Abled (DA) (it may also be referred to as
Persons With Disability (PWD)
categories), awarded by any of the
universities incorporated by an act of the
centralorstatelegislatureinIndiaorother
educational institutions established by an act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as a
university under Section 3 of the UGC Act. 1956, or possess an equivalent qualification
recognizedbytheMinistryofHumanResourceDevelopment,GovernmentofIndia.
Candidates appearing for the final year of bachelor’s degree/equivalent qualification
examination and those who have completed degree requirements and are awaiting results
can also apply. If selected, such candidates will be allowed to join the programme
provisionally, only if he/she submits a certificate latest by June 30, 2019 from the
Principal/Registrar of his/her College/Institute (issued on or before June 30, 2019) stating
that the candidate has completed all the requirements for obtaining the bachelor’s degree/
equivalentqualificationonthedateoftheissueofthecertificate.
CAT2018/XAT2019
Apply and appear for CAT 2018/ XAT 2019. IIFM will use CAT/XAT score for short-listing the
candidates. IIMs/XLRI have no role either in the selection process or in the conduct of the
programme.

PROGRAMME STRUCTURE
A judicious mix of different modules like class-room teaching, structured field work and project-
work in client organizations are used to inculcate managerial skills. In class-room teaching,
advancedpedagogicaltechniques,i.e.,casemethod,roleplayandsimulationgamesareextensively
used. A broad framework of various learning components and methods of handling them is
presentedinthetablebelow.

Industry Project (IP)
The student based on his or her
interest shall select a topic related
to any of the aspects of
sustainability management in
industry of his/her choice. The
student shall spend a full 8-week
period in the industry and is expected
to analyze the data and information
so collected, present it in form of a
professional business report to be
submitted to the industry where the
project had been carried out. The
report shall be evaluated by a panel
of examiners appointed within the
faculty of the Institute.
Summer Internship (SI)
The Summer Internship cell
of IIFM shall invite the SI
offers from various
industries, consultancy
firms, Research
organizations and the same
shall be floated to the
students for selection. The
Student shall work on the
problems and task as
assigned by the Interning
organization and at the end,
produce a Summer
Internship report.
Evaluation and Grading
The PGDSM programmeis built on
active participation from every
student in each component,
namely, Classroom, Fieldwork,
Summer Internship and Industry
project. The evaluation process is
continuous and aims at
optimizing the students’
involvement in learning from
various courses as well as from
opportunities outside the
classroom. Accordingly, students
get grades based onassignments,
quizzes, evaluation of projects
and term examinations.
PEDAGOGY
Sustainability reporting involves environmental data, their collection and analysis. It
also provides basis for monitoring and evaluation of sustainable development. There
are many important aspects to the collection of environmental data related to each project, approaches, tools and
techniques applied will influence the type and strength of statistical inferences. This will help to choose appropriate
experimental units, types of data and establishing sampling techniques to increase the efficiency of data collection.
This component explains the data type, scale, types of variables, sampling design, data collection techniques, tools and
techniques, data analysis and reporting to achieve sustainable development goal. The field work component is designed
toequipstudentstobeabletounderstandenvironmentaldata,itscollectionproceduresandanalysis.
ClassRoom
PGDSM course is designed in a manner that the overall
learning goals in the programme are achieved and synergy is
created between course-work, fieldwork and Summer
Internshipandindustryproject.
Each one credit unit course has 30 sessions of 60 minutes
each. The total class room time per one credit unit course
equals 30 hours, besides approximately 70 hours of
supportiveandpreparatorywork.

The Chairman’s Gold and Silver medals shall be awarded to the meritorious students of PGDSM,
basedontheirOGPAonCompletionoftheprogramme.Thesemedalsareawardedonthedayofthe
Convocation. The Director’s Medal shall be is awarded for the best Summer Internship to selected
studentonthedayof‘Kalptaru’theAnnualFestivaloftheInstitute.
The fee payable by students admitted to PGDSM is as follows:
General Category/ Non-creamy OBC/ Differently Abled Candidates: - They are required to pay
Rs3,74,400 (non-refundable) as the first year fee receipt of the admission offer. The second year
ofacademicfeeofRs.2,49,600/-(non-refundable)hastobepaidonorbeforethecommencement
ofthesecondyear’sacademicsession,i.e.beforethefourthTerm.
SC/ST Candidates: -They are required to pay an amount of Rs.2,24,640/- (nonrefundable) as the
first year fee on the receipt of the admission offer. The second year of academic fee of
Rs1,49,760/- (non-refundable) has to be paid in second year academic session i.e. before the
fourthTerm.

Kalpataru, the annual festival is a
gala event, hosting various
literary, cultural and sports
activities. Not only does it provide
students with an opportunity to
hone their organizational skills,
but also serves as a platform for
them to interact with other
members of the IIFM fraternity.
CulturalClub
Cultural Club adds a lot of fun and
enthusiasm to students’ life by
organizing different festival
celebrations and cultural events
rejuvenating every dimension of
creativity of the students. The
activities give opportunities to
students to celebrate their joie de
vivre. They add flavors to a diligently
occupied life. Events like Ghazal
Night, Garba, Talent-hunt and
festivals like Janmashtmi, Ganesh
Puja, Dusshera are celebrated with
gaiety and fervor.
NatureClub
Nature Club engages students to make efforts to
conserve the environment. Its activities are inclined
towards protecting the environment and connecting
with the society and community at large. The same is
witnessed in the events they organize viz.
NukkadNatak, blood donation camp, cleanliness
drive, celebration of children’s day with kids of an
NGO and creating awareness through events like
photography competition, T-shirt painting and clay
modeling.
LiteraryClub
Activities of the Literary Club help students in
nurturing their intellectual mettle. Panel
discussions, foreign language classes, debates,
poster making competition are organized by the
literary club. This helps the students expand their
knowledge at macro level and get benefitted by other
brainsaroundthem.
MovieClub
Activities and events of the movie club are not just
informative but relaxing as well. It is responsible for
edutainment of the students. It screens movies and
documentations on weekends, runs movie and
documentary marathons, shows open theatre
movies and organize quizzes. Apart from the
members of the club, other students also have a say
inscreeningofthemoviesoftheirchoice.
SportsClub
Facing competitions, team spirit, hard work,
leadership, discipline, achieving goals are just some
of the qualities that sports imbibe in oneself. Sports
club at IIFM makes every effort to provide many

PRATIBIM-DramaticsClub
The Dramatics Club brings out acting skills of the
students. Performing on stage enriches students

dramatics club exposes students and audience to
literature of playwrights that form a treasure trove of
our culture. Apart from that, organizing events helps
the students to learn management skills. The club
also provides students exposure at national level
wheretheycompetewithotherinstitutes.
AlumniRelations
The alumni affirm their links with the Institute
through the IIFM Alumni Cell and the IIFM Alumni
Association. The Alumni cell holds an annual
Convention; Groups meet regularly in all major cities
of the country. IIFM brings out a newsletter called
Synergy at IIFM, which acts as a channel of
communication between alumni and students. The
Alumni cell also runs an Internetpage that acts as a
forum for frequent discussions on contemporary
academicandprofessionalissues.
Mess Committee
With active participation of the students, the
mess committee takes care of the cuisine at
IIFM. Every term new members replace the
old members and get a chance to learn the
intricacies involved in operating the mess.
They are involved in activities such as
deciding the menu, checking accounts and
managing finances of the mess activities,
doing market research to get an idea of the
best available prices for food items and
handling feasts on festive occasions.

APPLY TO IIFM Admission to the fully residential two year PGDSM is open to graduates from any discipline provided he/she fulfils the eligibility criteria and qualifies through the selectionprocess. Eligibility A candidate must hold a bachelor’s degree in any discipline with at least 50% marks or equivalent CGPA (45% in case of candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST) and Differently Abled (DA) (it may also be referred to as Persons With Disability (PWD) categories), awarded by any of the universities incorporated by an act of the centralorstatelegislatureinIndiaorother educational institutions established by an act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as a university under Section 3 of the UGC Act. 1956, or possess an equivalent qualification recognizedbytheMinistryofHumanResourceDevelopment,GovernmentofIndia. Academic Calendar for 2019-20 (first Year) TermI FromJuly 01to September13,2019 Term II September 16 to December 13, 2019 Field work – I December 16, 2019 to January 03, 2020 Term III January 06, 2020 to March 27, 2020 Summer Internship March 30 to June 05, 2020TENTATIVE Industry Project (IP) The student based on his or her interest shall select a topic related to any of the aspects of sustainability management in industry of his/her choice. The student shall spend a full 8-week period in the industry and is expected to analyze the data and information so collected, present it in form of a professional business report to be submitted to the industry where the project had been carried out. The report shall be evaluated by a panel of examiners appointed within the faculty of the Institute. Summer Internship (SI) The Summer Internship cell of IIFM shall invite the SI offers from various industries, consultancy firms, Research organizations and the same shall be floated to the students for selection. The Student shall work on the problems and task as assigned by the Interning organization and at the end, produce a Summer Internship report. Evaluation and Grading The PGDSM programmeis built on active participation from every student in each component, namely, Classroom, Fieldwork, Summer Internship and Industry project. The evaluation process is continuous and aims at optimizing the students’ involvement in learning from various courses as well as from opportunities outside the classroom. Accordingly, students get grades based onassignments, quizzes, evaluation of projects and term examinations. PEDAGOGY Sustainability reporting involves environmental data, their collection and analysis. It also provides basis for monitoring and evaluation of sustainable development. There are many important aspects to the collection of environmental data related to each project, approaches, tools and techniques applied will influence the type and strength of statistical inferences. This will help to choose appropriate experimental units, types of data and establishing sampling techniques to increase the efficiency of data collection. This component explains the data type, scale, types of variables, sampling design, data collection techniques, tools and techniques, data analysis and reporting to achieve sustainable development goal. The field work component is designed toequipstudentstobeabletounderstandenvironmentaldata,itscollectionproceduresandanalysis. ClassRoom PGDSM course is designed in a manner that the overall learning goals in the programme are achieved and synergy is created between course-work, fieldwork and Summer Internshipandindustryproject. Students also get a chance to pragmatically understand the nuances in community development andecotourism. PRATIBIM-DramaticsClub The Dramatics Club brings out acting skills of the students. Performing on stage enriches students with confidence and helps them to open up. The dramatics club exposes students and audience to literature of playwrights that form a treasure trove of our culture. Apart from that, organizing events helps the students to learn management skills. The club also provides students exposure at national level wheretheycompetewithotherinstitutes. AlumniRelations The alumni affirm their links with the Institute through the IIFM Alumni Cell and the IIFM Alumni Association. The Alumni cell holds an annual Convention; Groups meet regularly in all major cities of the country. IIFM brings out a newsletter called Synergy at IIFM, which acts as a channel of communication between alumni and students. The Alumni cell also runs an Internetpage that acts as a forum for frequent discussions on contemporary academicandprofessionalissues. Mess Committee With active participation of the students, the mess committee takes care of the cuisine at IIFM. Every term new members replace the old members and get a chance to learn the intricacies involved in operating the mess. They are involved in activities such as deciding the menu, checking accounts and managing finances of the mess activities, doing market research to get an idea of the best available prices for food items and handling feasts on festive occasions.
