2. What were the Twin Towers?
• The World Trade Centre is a complex of
various buildings in Lower Manhattan,
New York City. The original World Trade
Centre was a complex of seven buildings.
It featured landmark twin towers, which
opened on April 4.
3. North Tower And South Tower.
• The north tower was hit first but was the
second to collapse at around 10:28a.m. , it
burned for 102 minutes in total.
• The South tower collapsed at 10:05 a.m.
Eastern Time. It took ten seconds for the entire
tower to fall.
4. The Pentagon.
• At about 9:40 a.m. a plane with 58 people on
board crashed into the west side of the
Pentagon, the country’s military headquarters
in Washington. A part of the building collapsed
and about 200 people were killed.
5. But why and when did this happen?
• It was soon found out that Osama Bin Laden and
his terrorist organization Al Qaeda had been
behind the attacks.
• Osama Bin Laden is thought to be the world‘s
leading terrorist.
• So on the morning of September 11, 2001, they
hijacked four planes and attacked America in a
terrible way.
