2. Background During 9/11 four jet airliners were hijacked. The terrorist group that hijacked them were called al-Qaeda. Nineteen al-Qaeda members hijacked the planes. Two planes crashed into the World Trade Centre. The third plane crashed into The Pentagon. The fourth plane crashed into a field after the crew tried to take control of the plane. Everyone on the planes died, including the al-Qaeda members.
3. 8:46 AM The first plane crashed into the North Tower between floors 94-98. The building caught fire. No one above the impact zone was able to evacuate.
4. 9:03 AM The second plane crashed into the South Tower. It crashed between floors 78-84. There was a massive evacuation of the South Tower below where the plane crashed.
5. 9:59 AM - Collapse At 9:59 AM the North and South Towers of the World Trade Center collapsed. Some weren’t able to evacuate and sadly died. The ruined building was hidden by clouds of smoke.
6. After effects 2,749 deaths recorded. 13 died after the disaster. 23 New York police officers died. The World Trade Center was completely destroyed.
